An Elder Law Attorney that I've never met in person has invited me to go to a Army football game at West Point. I learned of this man through a mutual client, spoke to him, like his ability to preserve assets even after others have said it's too late, and have sent him numerous referrals.

Anyhow, we'll be having dinner at the Superintendent's house, watching a parade from the Superintendent's Box and watching the game from the Superintendent's Suite. I have to wear a jacket and tie.

I'm going, but it's gonna be kinda weird. I know I can't be my usual drunk derelict I enjoy being at sporting events, but do think I should see if he'll want to go to a strip joint after the game? Do you think they'll mind if I call in a few bets while we're hanging out? Would it be rude to watch a different game on the TV while we're sitting in the Super's Suite?

I think I'm pretty fucked :think2:

My experience

When they give you the tickets and tell you to enjoy - it's a gift or repayment for services rendered (the referrals).

When being wined and dined from the top shelf - it's business of some kind. For a sporting event, it's bad tatse to discuss business during the game, but expect them to "feel you out". Consider it the openining bid for some negotiation and go from there - stay away from politics and have fun.

Ixnay on the etsbay, unless you can be discreet about it. Otherwise, get down before you leave.

Folks in the real world don't look kindly on that sort of thing.

This is a perfect example of why I got out of the business world 10 years ago. Life's too short to not be me.

Willie, it's always good to know you're one of the guys.

As far as the game goes, you can fake it for a day can't you? Approach it like thanksgiving or something.

Just be yourself, excise good judgement and enjoy the event. Hope this helps.

I'll only say this Willie.
Joe Kennedy (the patriarch) once said "Its not who you are its who people think you are."
I don't know if letting these guys know your vices helps you going forward.I definatley let them give themselves away first.

I know Pat, I'm going to wear my family man / professional hat that day.

Funkster, I'm always a "boy" at heart.

And I will be placing all my action before I leave.

I haven't figured out a way to take care of the strip joint action though. Army cheerleaders just ain't going to do it for me.

I agree with the first quip and the third quip.

Being drunk could disable you and a stripper will drain your bank needed for betting.

I got $20 sez that if Willie properly schmoozes in the couple hours before game and then announces, "I'm calling my bookie to get some action in - Anyone else want in?" - he will get a minimum of a half dozen agreeable cohorts and I'll lay another $20 that sez the host's wife is one of 'em.

Baloney, baloney.

At least half the people present will have some kind of action going on the game, even if it's just office pool squares. Of that group, most will jump at the chance to get down a bet with "a real bookie".

It will be the talk of the office for weeks to come and I'll now lay another $20 that following the success of Willie's "sub-bookie" role at this party, he will be contacted by at least three of the attendees for directions on how to get down on action in following weeks and of course in the NFL.
