Its all marketing and they have done an excellent job of it thanks to ESPN. The most popular sport by far.

Personally i miss the days of having one or two dominant teams that met in the league championship games or super bowls.

My Questions:

How many teams were even close to being dominant teams this year? The answer is none.

How many teams were consistently good from start to finish? I came up with just 3.

How many good defenses were there this year. I came up with 4 out of 32!

Its the greatest game to watch but for me parity is rather boring.

isnt that a small part of the excitement? you dont really know whats gonna happen.

i really like college but sometimes the games are so predictable its not worth watching, except for when there are some upset games. those are always nice and exciting

I thought that this season was great. Not many dominant teams. Lots of ups and downs for alot of teams. I think that made for a very interesting season. Who would have thought that Philly or Zona would be one win away from the superbowl?

How is that an illusion?

The lack of dominant teams can be clearly seen by anyone

Or am I missing something

I agree 100%, I loved the days when you knew the 49ers were gonna win there division year after year. It made handicapping so much easier. Also, when a guy carrying the football fell to the ground, the ground could cause a fumble, they have made too many rules around a simple game. I also hate insant replay, its a joke, they sometimes get the call wrong even when we the audience see exactly what the ref sees in the booth.

We are led to believe that the regular season actually means something and that each week is a drama filled one with a win or loss being pivotal to each teams chances.

In essence it has become "hang around and be slightly above a 500 record", win your last two games and you are in.

Home field during the season and playoffs in the last two years means nothing with parity.

Its a watered down product with too many teams and rules favoring the offenses to keep the marginal (fantasy geeks) fans interested.

Winter football (at night) is a bad situation for players and fans.

If you're going to play in the middle of January (outside) kick-off at noon or 1 P.M. at the latest.

ummm... hasnt the nfl always been about defense? and aren't the # 1, 2, and 3 defensive teams in the NFL still alive?

as far as having the same dominant teams playing for the super bowl every year, no thanks. i'd rather every team have a chance to go from 1-15 one year to 11-5 the next and maybe even win the Super Bowl. the really good teams (patriots, colts, giants, etc.) will be in the picture for years to come. but to see at least 4 new teams in the playoffs each year that didn't make it the prior year is a breath of fresh air.

i think one of the reasons the NBA isnt so popular nationwide is because for the last 10+ years it's been dominated by teams like the lakers, spurs, and pistons. now that teams like the celtics, cavs, and hornets are beginning to step up, the league is getting a bit more interesting.

and what i dont get is why they're not playing the East Coast game first and then moving to the West. It makes a lot more sense to kickoff the Ravens/Steelers game at 2PM CT (3PM ET) and then kick off the Eagles/Cardinals at 530PM CT (330PM PT).

When Joe Namath and the Jets beat the Colts in 1969, it was considered one of the greatest upsets of all time and one of the greatest moments in sports history. If it happened today, nobody would blink an eye.

That's parity for you.

I think this is just bad luck. The networks rotate each year, last year the AFC was the early game and NFC was the late game. There was also only one team in the NFC playoffs that is in the pacific time zone and they just happened to be the team that is hosting it. I'd say most people thought Atlanta had a better shot of hosting Philadelphia than Arizona did if you would've asked them on Jan 2.

im on the other side of this one..

If there were dynasties then what would be the point for even watching the other teams. Dynasties are dominant therefore everyone else pretty much doesnt have a chance.

If it were to happen the way you want, the NFL would be bankrupt. No one would bother to attend or pay any attention to teams other then the same teams that are dominant year after year.
