I'm not a fan of either team so I thought making a pick would be easy. I was wrong. Both teams are well coached and have very talented players.
On paper, this should be a very good game with a close score throughout the 4 quarters. As a matter of fact, this game could possibly be the first to go into overtime in Super Bowl history. Yet inevitably, the intangibles will determine the winner. Fumbles, interceptions, penalties, imaginary penalties from the refs, players having unusually good games and players having terrible games. No way to predict these things. I happen to like the Pats (PK) for the reasons listed below but anything could happen and it usually does. GLTA and have a great Super Bowl.
The Pats players are hungrier and want this win more than Seattle. Tom Brady knows this is his last chance to win a Super Bowl.
The Packers provided a blueprint for defeating the Seahawks. I think Belicheck will use this and improve upon it. He'll find away to slow down Lynch and not let him take over the game. He'll also find a way to keep Wilson in the pocket as much as possible.
Packers 3-4 defense gave Wilson fits and the Pats 3-4 defense might do the same. If they can keep Wilson contained in the pocket, he will struggle and the Pats should win.
Much has been made of Seattle going 6-0 into the postseason but who did they play during that stretch? The QB-less Cardinals twice, the disappointing 49ers twice, the Rams and then an Eagles team clearly declining at season's end. Then they get a sub 500 team in the first round of the playoffs and then a miracle win versus Green Bay courtesy of a massive choke. Outside of Green Bay's game, which was awesome, they haven't played a quality team in month.
The Seahawks have a dominant defense but two of their key players (arguably their two best defensive players) have fairly significant injuries. Sherman has an elbow injury and Thomas has a separated shoulder. Those aren't insignificant injuries and take time to completely heal. Just because the Seahawks say they're both ready to play doesn't mean the players are at full strength. Belichick will test both of these players and expose any weakness he sees in the defense.
I think what a lot of people are overlooking is the fact that the Pats defense is better than people realize and the Seahawks offense is only good when Lynch is running well. The Pats run defense is good enough to take Lynch out of the game and put it all on Wilson's arm and if the game is on Wilson's arm, then the Pats should win.
