17 April 2003 Iraqi Information Minister
Something has been missing from my life for the past week and its really made me a bit sad. For some reason, Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf, the former Iraqi Information Minister, has been curiousley absent from public view. I'm very happy that the war in Iraq is coming to an end (I was against it in the first place) but there is still a lot of work to be done to restore order, stop anarchy and looters, and restore power and water to the people of Iraq. But that's another topic that I'll stay out of for now. Life has just not been the same lately because I no longer get to see the comments of the Iraqi Information Minister on the news every night. I must say that I really do miss the guy.

War is something that most of us would rather be without and is always ugly, but amid all the news of people dying, the destruction to cities, and the new high-tech weapons being used against a much weaker apponent, the Iraqi Information Minister always brought a smile to my face. While America was playing their own physcological game with the world, so was Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf in his daily broadcasts to the world media about how the coalition forces "...have started to commit suicide under the walls of Baghdad. We will encourage them to commit more suicides quickly." I looked foreword to coming home every day to see what new comment the Iraqi Information Minister had to say while his city was being bombed and destroyed behind him. His complete denial of the truth and what was going on was very funny to watch and according to his version of the war this whole thing has been staged (like in the movie Wag The Dog) and that in reality the Iraqi soldiers were killing all of the invading forces.

These are some of my favourite quotes from Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf, the former Iraqi Information Minister:

- "My feelings-as usual-we will slaughter them all!"
- "There are no American infidels in Baghdad. Never!"
- "Our initial assessment is that they will all die."
- "God will roast their stomachs in hell at the hands of Iraqis."
- "They're coming to surrender or be burned in their tanks."
- "No I am not scared, and neither should you be!"
- "I blame Al-Jazeera - they are marketing for the Americans!"
- "We will welcome them with bullets and shoes."
- "I speak better English than this villain Bush."
- "We will slaughter them, Bush Jr. and his international gang of bastards!"

I really grew to like this guy despite his apparant love for Saddam. No matter what the situation was he always appeared confident in Iraq's ability to win even though they were clearly losing. I would think that would be a difficult thing to do. Obviousley he was trying to get the Iraqi people behind him and get them into thinking that Saddam and his army was winning, despite their underdog status, but unfortunately for him the incoming enemy tanks told the Iraqi people otherwise. If you only watched this guy talk, and saw no other news coverage, you would think that Iraq was really winning and had an amazingly strong and determined army. But I found Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf's news broadcasts to be much more entertaining and interesting than any of the "credible" news sources out there. I found myself scouring the internet (mostly Reuters) for video clips of his speeches. They sure were entertaining and I've missed him these days. The news is not what it used to be without him.

Since Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf isn't in the deck of cards depicting the US's most wanted people from the Iraqi regime I hope he will be ok. I would love to see him on TV again or in Iraq doing something useful to help his country. I'm really curious as to what happened to him, more so than I am as to what happened to Saddam. I hope we'll find out soon or maybe we'll see him back at his old post telling the world that the infidels will meet their deaths in Iraq.

Don't we still have Ari Fleischer for another month? He is equally good for a laugh.

I think Lennox Lewis took lessons from the guy, he sounded just like him after his fight. "I don't know what you are talking about, if the fight went on any longer I would have really hurt him". Yeah right Lennox, your stumbling around and looking like a fat guy in the ring was just a ploy, the new version of the rope a dope right???
