I saw an interesting point though about it. Secret Service protected him for all these years and he rarely even left the house. Not that we need to say good we don't pay for that, but people don't realize from the moment a guy becomes a legitimate candidate that ends up being elected until the day he and his direct family dies, we taxpayers are all stuck with his protective services bill. So in fact the costs probably will go down. And the funeral and that goes with it are all mapped out within a month or two of the President taking office. None of the stuff being done wasn't approved by him decades ago.

Not sure if the government really spent much extra money for the Reagan ceremonies.

Most of the security (Secret Service, military) is already paid for. The transportation (cars, motorcycles, planes) is already paid for. It isn't as though they bought new planes to fly Reagan from coast to coast.

Maybe some people were paid overtime for this week. Other than that, the biggest variable cost was probably fuel and maintenance of the vehicles.

I don't think it cost much more than it was to have JFK jr.'s ashes taken out to sea per order of Bill Clinton on US miltary boats. After all he had to lead a real tough life of a democrat, of yachts, planes and private schools....you know the ones tax payers can't afford to go to.

Or the secret service to watch over the billionaire Kennedys....lord knows they need goverment assistance

YOU GUYS ARE IGNORANT IF YOU THINK THE CEREMONY DID NOT COST MILLIONS OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS.

The missing man formation is for pilots who give their lives for their country not for this old fart. I am pissed right now.

Guys, this is not too much more dramatic than our last stae funeral, LBJ in 1973. It's just been a while since we last had one. We'll be doing much the same thing when Ford, Carter, GHWB, Clinton, and GW go out. The only reason we didn't do one for Nixon was because he specifically requested otherwise.

Reagan's funeral expensive affair for US

June 11, 2004 01:26 IST

The state funeral for former United States president Ronald Reagan is likely to prove expensive for the country.

While the cost of the entire security framework for the former president's funeral is several million dollars, the Friday holiday for government departments will result in a loss of at least $423 million, reports the Los Angeles Times.

A day's salary for the entire federal work force is $423 million, according to the office of Personal Management. But officials did not have the exact number of workers required to work on Friday.

The deaths of four other former presidents -- Dwight D Eisenhower in 1969, Harry S Truman in 1972, Lyndon B Johnson in 1973 and Richard Nixon in 1994 -- have seen days of mourning.

Some states are also giving workers an off on Friday. According to a news agency California government's salary cost for a day is $59 million. New York state has a daily payroll of $44 million.

The National Conference of State Legislatures said state offices also would be closed in Kansas, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Rhode Island, Texas, Connecticut, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Delaware, New Mexico and Wyoming.

So, according to what you have determined this was a paid holiday then for all who would have otherwise worked (federal and state employees)?

Holy shit, glad this only happens once a decade.

Don't get me wrong, he probably earned a dignified sendoff, but this sure ain't the best time to go full board.

I mean come on 1 service is plenty enough, maybe 2, but the whole friggin week, like 4 services, about half a dozen flyovers, enough.
