Had the flu since Christmas Day. Chest pain was getting unbearable so finally went back to doc this morning. Had xrays done and confirmed pneumonia. Basically had a constant fever since day after Christmas. Any of y'all ever had it? Have any pointers for dealing with it?

they gave me Albuterol (inhaler) to help with bbreathing and an antibiotic called Levofloxacin 500mg

Thanks and I will. They could tell me to jump off a bridge and I'd do it at this point. I haven't been sick in about 5 years at least. This is no way to feel......feel like I'm bloated with drinking so much water but they told me you don't want to get dehydrated on the antibiotics

Have seen family members with it...Rest rest and more rest. LITERALLY. And when you do start feeling better, do NOT even think about being active. Just rest more. And make sure you take ALL the antibiotics, even if you start feeling better.

Water is about the best liquid you can drink. It will thin out secretions and make it a little easier to cough junk up. Don't mess around with it AT ALL! If you're not seeing improvements, go back to docs/hospital. They will put you on more potent antibiotics if necessary. Sometimes that's what it takes. Nothing to fuck around with.

Best of luck to you and get well soon!

Thanks man. Solid advice. I've got the next three days maybe 4 to do absolutely nothing but drink water

Thanks man. Yea it would not have been good timing. I'm ashamed to say I haven't played golf since late August. Kiddo finally reached that age where there is always something going on. Coaching her soccer team this past fall, ballet once a week and school twice a week. If you make it back again this year, I give my word ill take the day off from work if need be and make any other arrangements so we can hit em, maybe tip a few back

I rarely get sick ( can't remember how long it's been since I've had a cold) but I had Pnuemonia about 10 years ago. I was told even after getting rid of it I still would feel weak and I wouldn't feel normal for a few weeks. That was pretty much on target as it took about a month for me to feel normal again.

I've been on a pretty good run like you without getting sick also. Guess it was time to catch up with me. Interesting about the feeling weak stuff. It's 10:45 in texas right now and I feel about as good as I have in a week right now. Seems pretty soon for the antibiotic to be working but never know maybe it is........I've also heard once you have had pneumonia your more likely to get it again. That's a shithouse rumor so may not be accurate at all

I shouldn't have used the word normal.
What I meant was even after getting rid of the pnuemonia I would get tired easily.
The antibiotics worked fairly quickly for me but it was just odd how I would feel fatigued after doing routine things and that went on for almost a month.

Hope you start to feel better soon! Pneumonia is no joke. Make sure you follow the antibiotic regimen to a tee.....Levofloxacin is a powerful antibiotic but you need to make sure you are taking it as prescribed! A certain concentration of the drug is needed to fully combat the pneumonia. I would assume you will be taking it for at least 7-10 days.
The fatigue is quite common since the pneumonia probably limited you oxygen carrying capacity of the lung....did they perform an oxygen saturation? I would guess that is was low. A small percentage drop in your Oxygen carrying capacity can have a significant impact on your energy level. Take it easy....rest....and let your body heal!! Best of luck to your recovery!

Thanks man. Sounds like you have been around the block on this stuff. They listened to my breathing, made me whisper "1,2,3" and say "E". Not sure what that told them but she told me a few min later I had about 96% capacity. Is that what you are talking about? My sister in law will be a nurse practitioner soon and she told me that medicine will mess my stomach up in all kinds of ways. No probs so far though only taken one dose. I have 10 pills in total. The biggest problem for me was after I laid down for about an hour, my chest pains were pretty much unbearable. It was fucking brutal to be honest. I've been laying down since about 7 tonight, with an hour or so nap, and can def tell its no where near as bad for the time being..... Appreciate your words brother. Have a happy new year

Take care Taylor13. Haven't had it but sounds pretty horrible. Sucks that you have to go through this during the holiday time. At least you can rest and watch a lot of bowl games

Taylor ..

Feel better.. I had this for weeks about a month ago or so.
took the same meds as you. My only problem was I coughed so hard that I cracked a rib. And I just wanted someone to end me. That's how bad it was.

but like others have said. Lots of rest... Also soup... Lots of it. Along with water..... Bed rest....
Took me over 5 weeks.. But that's because I didn't go to the doctors right away. Thought it would just pass.

be good, and try to enjoy your New Years the best you can
