Is this a first step in cutting out the fed?

If the goverment owned the banks, they would control the money.

Im not a big fan of goverment ownership, but this would be the exception.

Am I way off base here?

If the goverment owns the banks, this would reduce the need for the fed.
With that being said they would still be under the umbrella of the cartell of the fed, but this could be a good start.

Dont know but this is a horrible freakin step. It didnt work in russia. It didnt work in Iceland. Socialism doesnt freakin work. I am sick of this repub an dem crap. It is ridiculous. Oh yeah both candidates are socialists not just Barack. Everyone in government has blood on their hands from this whole mess. We just need to kick everyone arse out of our government system and start over. Set term limits for everyone. WTF has happened to our ethics and our morals as a country. If we dont fix this somehow someway our children will not have the same oppurtunities. It is not always about money it should be more about doing the right thing. Sorry for ranting in your thread but I am sick of the dem/repub bs it is crazy. Quit playing partisan politics and help rebuild this freakin country. Because this garbage is not over yet. We havent hit bottom and when we do pointing fingers is not going to help. I think we are screwed for the next four years no matter who in the hell is elected.

The founding fathers preached having control of the money.

Woodrow Wilson sold us out in 1913 when he allowed a private group known as the FED to control our money.

I would rather the money be controled by the goverment then I group of a few powerful people like we have it right now.

I have lost all trust in the people in charge. First they pass the $700 billion bailout plan which could go up to $1.25 trillion. The bailout isn't working so now they want control of certain banks. Why ? So they could fuck that up too and have control of everything in the economy?

I don't see it as being a big deal. The FDIC insures all the money anyhow, maybe it's best that the gov't plays a more active role in their management.

You don't see it as a big deal?? The government put us in this big mess right now with the bailout. So sure yeah why not lets give them chance number 2. After they fuck up some more banks, will be going straight to a depression.

I disagree. The greed of the banks got them into this mess by getting themselves tits deep in sub-prime mortgages that had no business being issued in the first place.

there are gobs of uninsured money in the trillions that are over the recently raised 250k cap

if you have 100 million in cash laying around in banks there aren't enough banks to split it all up amongst probably or way too much a headache
