Keep an eye out for my team-by-team predictions. Every single team with some quick notes on each on what to expect. Going to likely start on Monday since I'm swamped. Have to write 100 articles on the Belmont Stakes this week. Lots of fun.

Is it safe to quit my job?!~~~!
Keep the job. You'll have more money to bet with and thus you will profit more. :103631605

Early retirement after the football season is, however, encouraged.

Give me 3 horses in the Belmont while you are at it. :103631605

A certain poster set the bar pretty high last year, so I wish you the best.

Still trying to figure it out myself. I think the pace will be slow enough for the closers to get involved. Horses like Flying Private and Summer Bird have much more to show and I think they can figure into the top finishers with the slow pace. Closers don't do all that well in this race but there are usually horses that push them early. In this race I don't see it.

A trifecta box with Mine That Bird, Flying Private, and Summer Bird would pay out a pretty penny.

Like I said though... I'm far from cement on what I'm doing just yet. That's just one I considered because of the high payout since Flying Private and Summer Bird are both 10/1 or more.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'll battle that Dizzle feller all year long. Best of luck to him and anyone else who puts money on the college game.

He's got a good shot but I have a feeling that one of the underdog horses matches Mine That Bird's close and steals it by a nose.

One bet I really do like (available at Bodog) is for the race to go "Over 02:28.5". Without Rachel Alexandra in it I don't really see a horse capable of putting on a fast pace and that should send this one well over. It's -120 currently and I think this race has a time closer to 02:30:00 than anything.

Snazzy Jake?

That's a new Bronco uniform.
The "Boise Look" for 2009.
Smurf blue, deceptively so.

I like them actually. Blue and orange can be bright and colorful much easier than yellow and green in my opinion. Very snazzy.

If Oregon goes wild with their away uni's this season, it could really be a colorfoul game when they go up to Smirfland to play Boise State. The game should be very good also.

As far as the Belmont is concerned, it is a tough call, when you consider that these 3 year olds certainly leave someting to be desired. Mind That Bird is going off at 2-1, not terribly short for a favorite who has a win and a place in his two previous Triple Crown Races. Charitible Man is at 3-1 and Dunkirk is at 4-1. Flying Private and Summer Bird are at 12-1, but I think that both Birds will be wagered down, and a lot of players will take the "Bird-Bird" angle in their Exacta's.

Agree a lot with the "Bird-Bird" thing. Hell, their pappy won the Belmont not long ago so the right blood is there I suppose. As long as the pace stays slow (with Miner's Escape possibly being the pace setter it should be) than I think the closers have a great shot in this race.

Q

Guy says " I know who is going to win every college football game in 2009.

Other guy: Really, who?

Guy says " The ones with the highest scores"

Is this a trick question/proclaimation?

Haha kind of like John Madden saying "Whoever scores the most points is going to come out of this one with the win". No shit John. No shit.

For those who are, for whatever reason, following my horse picks in this thread (who knows)...

Summer Bird -175 over Luv Gov should be closer to -300 or -400. Maybe even higher. Available at SBG Global. I absolutely love this bet.

Hey listen, I know this is not exactly on topic, nor is it football related. But when it comes to making classic quotes there's no one that compares to Yogi Berra.

Here's a list of yogi-isms that I dug up. Enjoy!

  • "This is like deja vu all over again."
  • "You can observe a lot just by watching."
  • "He must have made that before he died." -- Referring to a Steve McQueen movie.
  • "I want to thank you for making this day necessary." -- On Yogi Berra Appreciation Day in St. Louis in 1947.
  • "I'd find the fellow who lost it, and, if he was poor, I'd return it." -- When asked what he would do if he found a million dollars.
  • "Think! How the hell are you gonna think and hit at the same time?"
  • "You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there."
  • "I knew I was going to take the wrong train, so I left early."
  • "If you don't know where you are going, you will wind up somewhere else."
  • "If you can't imitate him, don't copy him."
  • "You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I'm not hungry enough to eat six."
  • "Baseball is 90% mental -- the other half is physical."
  • "It was impossible to get a conversation going; everybody was talking too much."
  • "Slump? I ain't in no slump. I just ain't hitting."
  • "A nickel isn't worth a dime today."
  • "Nobody goes there anymore; it's too crowded."
  • "It gets late early out there." -- Referring to the bad sun conditions in left field at the stadium.
  • "Glen Cove." -- Referring to Glenn Close on a movie review television show.
  • Once, Yogi's wife Carmen asked, "Yogi, you are from St. Louis, we live in New Jersey, and you played ball in New York. If you go before I do, where would you like me to have you buried?" Yogi replied, "Surprise me."
  • "Do you mean now?" -- When asked for the time.
  • "I take a two hour nap, from one o'clock to four."
  • "If you come to a fork in the road, take it."
  • "You give 100 percent in the first half of the game, and if that isn't enough in the second half you give what's left."
  • "90% of the putts that are short don't go in."
  • "I made a wrong mistake."
  • "Texas has a lot of electrical votes." -- During an election campaign, after George Bush stated that Texas was important to the election.
  • "Thanks, you don't look so hot yourself." -- After being told he looked cool.
  • "I always thought that record would stand until it was broken."
  • "Yeah, but we're making great time!" -- In reply to "Hey Yogi, I think we're lost."
  • "If the fans don't come out to the ball park, you can't stop them."
  • "Why buy good luggage? You only use it when you travel."
  • "It's never happened in the World Series competition, and it still hasn't."
  • "How long have you known me, Jack? And you still don't know how to spell my name." -- Upon receiving a check from Jack Buck made out to "bearer."
  • "I'd say he's done more than that." -- When asked if first baseman Don Mattingly had exceeded expectations for the current season.
  • "The other teams could make trouble for us if they win."
  • "He can run anytime he wants. I'm giving him the red light." -- On the acquisition of fleet Ricky Henderson.
  • "I never blame myself when I'm not hitting. I just blame the bat, and if it keeps up, I change bats. After all, if I know it isn't my fault that I'm not hitting, how can I get mad at myself?"
  • "It ain't the heat; it's the humility."
  • "The towels were so thick there I could hardly close my suitcase."
  • "You should always go to other people's funerals; otherwise, they won't come to yours."
  • "I didn't really say everything I said."
