Pick #1
Florida State – 10 ½ at Boston College…. "Woah Oh Oh Oh O Woah Oh oh Oh O O O O O" Yes it’s Florida State in prime time playing up at Chestnut Hill, MA. BC’s home field will hardly be an advantage as the student section will cut class in the afternoon and be gakking in the broken toilets in Mary Ann's well before kickoff. Last year FSU overlooked BC and almost got caught napping. Jimbo Fisher will have them ready this year. After a pedestrian performance last week in a 34-14 win over South Florida, look for Everett Golson to showcase his NFL talent on Thursday night with his plethora of speedy and jumpy receivers. If the Eagles are intent on shutting him down, then they’ll get run over by the Nole’s Dalvin Cook who ran for 266 yds last week.
BC is going to have big problems getting into this game after opening with Maine and Howard. FSU beat Texas St by the score of 59-16 while BC only beat Maine 24-3. Texas St is much better than FCS team Maine. It will be very difficult for BC to be ready for the team speed and athleticism of the Seminoles after playing Howard, which would most likely lose to most D3 schools. The fact that BC only completed 14 of 25 passes against Maine while rushing for only 200 yards in that game indicates that they will have trouble scoring 10 points against FSU. Three touchdowns by the Seminoles, including either one by special teams or the defense will get the war chant going on the way to an easy cover. Lay the wood and 3 units on the Seminoles.
Pick #2
Temple -11 at Massachusetts…..The Temple Owls travel up Rte 95 to play UMass in Foxboro. While this is a UMASS home game, the fact that they play in Gillette Stadium which is a 2 hour drive from the Umass campus means that nobody goes to these games…nobody that is except the Temple fans who are rabidly following this team which is now 2-0 and on a roll after knocking off Penn State(27-10) and Cincinnati on the road (34-26). Both Penn State and Cincinnati have beaten teams that are better than UMASS. Do the math.
Temple’s Jahad Thomas ran for 135 yds against Penn St and for 193 yards against Cincinnati. What do you think he’s going to do against UMass which gave up 390 yards rushing to a Colorado team (in a 48-14 loss last week) that is not nearly as good as the Owls. No no no this is not your Daddy’s Temple team. They have a fierce and tenacious pass rush which will cripple UMass when they go back to pass. The Owls are also physical up front on offense. UMass still hasn’t had much luck recruiting D1 talent and once they fall behind in this game, the point spread is not going to matter much. Going with the chalk and 8 units on Temple.
