Jay Kornegay, sportsbook manager for the Imperial Palace will be leaving the IP in the next 2 to 3 weeks to accept a position in another undisclosed sportsbook.

The IP is noted for their numerous props and variety of bets. As far as land-based Vegas sportsbooks, the IP under Kornegay is certainly one of the top books in town.

This is definitely a blow to the Imperial Palace.

IP puts up a lot props but the juice is a ripoff. When you see -180 takeback +140 you just can't bet it. Low limits too. Do they still have the Lakers -130 to win the NBA Championship? Would the suckers stop coming to Vegas so the books will be forced to offer fair odds.

Chuck- I have always said, their is no accountability for LV Sportsbooks.

The Gaming Control Board could sure step it up a notch.....in so many areas.

Who makes up the The Gaming Control Board? Is this a respected group in Nevada?

What would the GCB do to sportsbooks? The only thing they do is make sure the game is fair and as advertised. If it has a huge takeout that is for the player to decide if he wants to play or not. There are no laws saying the casinos have to give players a fair gamble. It is in there interest to have decent payouts if they want to attract a good gambling crowd, but these days that doesn't seem much of a concern.

The GCB is highly respected, usually made up of law enforcement and attorneys with some industry veterans thrown in. They make decisions that aren't always popular, but no one questions their integrity. Once in awhile people claim they are too pro-industry, but most of their rulings and in fact their role is to make sure the state's games are considered far above board and they generally have no problems completing that function.

This entire thread is unfair to the IP. They put up unique props, more than anyone else anywhere.

They deal 30 cents line at close to pkem. They take 1000 on their prop bets vs. much larger places like Harrahs that want $300 bets or less.

In season wins, yes they have 30 cent lines, but they put them up before anyone else. They had over/under HR player props, win props, etc. These guys are not the ripoff artists, bet the Lakers 5/8 types, but rather they offer real value to sharp bettors.

They cannot and will not compete with the offshores. But as far as in town, they are one of, if not, the best. Comparing them to a Pinnacle or Olympic is not a fair comparison.

One of the reasons I go to Vegas for March madness is their unusual props. If you know your coll hoops you'll always find a mistake

I have thought about it today, where could he possibly be going? I don't think any of the big conglomerates are going to spend money on drawing away talent. Maybe the Golden Nugget? Or maybe Harrah's is getting him for the Horseshoe to reestablish that sorry business. I can't imagine who else would want someone with his imagination, anybody can book a Vegas property these days, you pay a guy good money only if you are changing your tactics.

I had the chance to talk with him once at the counter years ago, nice guy, and had nice hockey offerings back then..and I'm not a hockey guy.

As far as LV goes, the IP has had a nice rep as being non cookie-cutter.

Wherever Jay goes, let's hope his new boss gives him the freedom to show his skills.

These guys are 100% in favor of the casino's in Nevada a casino can toss anyone out with no valid reason. Most of that board is in Carson City a play that has a number of legal bothels.

Wild Bill- There are regulations and laws that say a game has to be fair.

Slots for instance cannot have a hold below a certain percentage.

THERE IS NO REGULATION OF THE SPORTSBOOKS IN VEGAS OF THIS KIND AND ITS A JOKE AND A RIPOFF.

Fish, only slots have this rule because it is a trade-off for not putting out on the machine what the percentage is. That was determined many decades ago when slots went to the Telnaes method. I won't go into explaining it, but it essentially makes slot odds impossible to determine without knowing how exactly they are programmed. This isn't the case with any other game. You can figure the odds with mathematical calculation and an understanding of the particular rules for the game. What is not fair about sports betting when a bettor can figure out the true odds and still chooses to try to beat them? That is Las Vegas and all gambling. Businesses that have an edge and the world knows it, but people still play. Nothing unfair about that at all.

I can see your argument for minimum payouts for sports books, but the problem is the people want to play the pie-in-the-sky parlays and no one wants to be in a spot where they are telling customers no. In your scenario most books wouldn't offer more than 5 or 6 team parlays. Suckers love 10 teamers, but books aren't going to let them have a shot at them if they have to pay out say 75% on these bets. So either you tell people they can't play them or you just shake your head at them and thank them for helping make sports betting a potentially profitable game for a handful of people.

As for the GCB's rules, we should all be fair in judgement of them. Who in the Black Book is barred from casinos? Almost all of them are convicted cheats and people with clearly known mob connections. They don't bar counters or anyone following the laws including bonus machine players, those decisions are left to the casinos. Private businesses are always allowed to refuse the right to visit from anyone, as long as it isn't done for racial or other prejudiced purposes.

I have enjoyed Vegas in many ways for a long, long time.

But.... Let's be honest boys....

The books are all cry baby pussies who won't let you gamble. There will be NO discussion on this.

Next point...

The whole place is an absolute LLCL. "Localized Legalized Criminal Activity"

They use every form of distraction and perversion to screw people out of ALL their money.

Don't make yourself look stupid by coming on here with some bullshit Oscar Goldman story about how warm and fuzzy Vegas is.

They will do everything possible to KILL people and their families financially... Then if you show any slight possibility of having anyway to consistently win 32 cents or more a week...

They will limit you, bar you, or even threaten to arrest you.

It is a complete cesspool with all the trappings of Disney World for adults.

Case closed... don't forget to tip your waitress!

Let me tell you what the crooked sportsbook MGM/Mirage did to me this week. I bet the NYY to win the East at -160. 10 minutes later I asked if the line was the same. It was so I made the bet again. The supvisor made a phone call, after a couple minutes of discussion, I was then notified if I wanted to bet it again it would be -200. I almost took the Red Sox at +170 but I probably would have been arrested. These books are terrible now.
