tjhat was so fucking shady, I've never seen a team do that. Your down by a touchdown plus and isntead of trying to get a TD you go for a Field goal on first down.
I thought it was payback for me hitting that Hail Mary by Drew Brees to cover the over on the Saints game.
What I don't understand is why coaches (especially those with medocre offenses) don't do that more often when they're down down by 9, 10 or 11 points in FG range with time running out. How many times have you seen a team at the opponent's 30 or 35 yard line burning clock and wasting downs trying to get a touchdown? They still need to get the onside kick. So why not get the 3 (theoretically easy points) and leave some time on the board so if you do get possession you have some time to get the touchdown?.
I understand that it's easier to get to field goal range rather than in the endzone but if you're blowing time trying to get the bulk (7 or 8) points and only leaving yourself with a few seconds to get a field goal, what's it worth?
It's a pay me now or later type scenario.. I'd rather not waste time and offense energy when I can get 1 one my scores quickly.
Remember I still need a low %age onside kick.
Duck and Johnny.. You beat me to it
