I will venture "Zero"

No egaming company that has a working brain would use the CR banking system to receive their deposits. They only use it to handle payroll/expenses.

Honestly its just another proof (like we needed one!) that the goverment doesn't think before creating laws that can't be properly enforced.

It would have been much simpler the older proposal (circa 2005?) where they wanted a flat amount based on the number of employees

well the part about the tax is no rumor...the goverment needs no excuses to put ridiculous taxes on all of us....but this time they have the 'global crisis'

now ......THIS goverment is on its way out, I doubt they will be able to put this tax in.....specially since the libertarians (go guys go!) will probably oppose it to death

Yep. You can't use Costa Rican banks to accept deposits, so how can they put a 2% tax on income?

In fact, there aren't any sportsbooks in Costa Rica for this reason. There are only call centers and data processing companies. Cost centers are based here, profit centers are elsewhere.

So this is pretty dumb.

On the other hand if they promoted the national banks to accept Sportsbooks and handle their deposits, they might actually get something. Better just tax deposits processed by CR banks at like 1%, than try to figure out gross income or tax deposits made outside Costa Rica.

because they are chicken shits and exactly the reason you point out. then again.....when the WTO ruled against the US in the egaming case.........CR lined up to collect $ from Uncle Sam based on the ruling that they lost. How much they got is anyone's guess..........since it was 'secret' as usual.

P.S Your only being naive if ya think this wont go through. Several of the Big Guys have already secured other options than Costa Rica, trust me on that as well

The end is near for ONLINE GAMING COMPANIES IN COSTA RICA.......

If your Tico working in the Books, ya best get your ass back to school, or get your Passports updated.........

This has brewed for years, and no with that country so fucked in debt this is but one of only a couple options they have.

Some books will stay under the radar and continue to operate there, but for the most part this will be the last football season for most.

Yup true story, just ask a round a bit..........

Several I have spoke with are locking in to Panama and a few have even spoke of Jamaica.

Now I have taken a look into the country to the North of Costa Rica, and have liked what I have seen so far.

I would never buy into the Nicaragua been a good place for the industry unless I really see it happen. The technology is there but the politics environment is just too unstable. Still to me would be a dream come true as damn it be so much cheaper to live over there. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Jamaica, u imagine the way those phone calls would go? I just imagine a rasta man on the line giving someone a Sunday rundown to a Texan redneck, that would be some hilarious recording two of the funniest accents in the same phone call.

It's always the same bullshit. Everytime there is a retarded proposal by tico government (which never materialze) people start "looking" for other venues.

They can't tax on this proposal.
