I forgot to mention, the place is being sold fully furnished. When I say fully, I mean bring your suitcase. (furniture, appliances, tv's ect....)

I checked yesterday from the CIA world factbook that GDP-per capita in Costa Rica is $8 500 and today I checked your link. Cheapest house was $35 000 and I have to say that view from the outside was horrible.

There were a lot of beautiful houses, but the prices are quite high vs Costa Rican GDP.

So I have a question. I don't know do you have an answer, but how much an average sportsbook worker earns/month pre and after taxation.

$35 000 house and $8 500 a year with a Finnish taxation would mean at least 30 year mortage, so I think taxation there is much more lower?

Taxes can be much less, or equivalent, all depends on personal situation. The taxes are structured very differently, most government revenue is from the VAT & consumption taxes.

Income tax on local earned income is 0-15%, on local non-earned income 0-25%, and on all foreign-source income is nil.

Capital gains tax is nil.

Social security is up to 22% of wages paid by employer, and up to 9% paid by employee.

VAT tax is 13% on importation and 13% at point-of-sale. Consumption taxes are 0-60% at importation and/or point-of-sale.

Property transfer tax is 3.01%. Property tax is nominal.

Yeah, but a decent apartment in Helsinki costs $600k and the taxes are higher.

Adam Selene,

Taxation looks reasonable compared with Finland. Income tax in Finland can be over 50% of earnings. VAT here maximum 22%.
After taxation difference on earnings isn't manifold anymore.

Gringo in CR,

Of course there are people with a cash, but I wanted to know how an average man get along with a salary. Jus because I am an average man.

mr Floppy,

You can get a decent apartment here with a $400 000, maybe $300 000 is enough. Of course in Costa Rica you can get a VERY NICE house with that money. Crime rate in Costa Rica concers me What I have been reading lately doesn't look good.

Maybe I should visit in Costa Rica someday and make a closer view.

Thanks guys

Faceless, you can get a pretty nice house here if you shop around, for about $70,000. I'm not talking about a mansion. I'm talking about a place that is comfortable.

If you want to take the time and the headaches of having one built from scratch, you could get by for about half that.

To find any descent deal you have to live here for awhile and build some connections. Normally anything you see on the net is targeted towards foreignors that have no idea what the real value is. The stuff posted here is meant for people that have been living here and have a decent salary.

For example is the houses that I have for sale also. Not to intrude on this post, but you can find decent deals if you look for them. Escazu IS one of the best values for your money as the property value increases every year. That's everywhere but the value is higher in Escazu. Now, the houses I have for sale are in Heredia, again, another good place for investing. However, the places in Escazu tend to be more expensive because the land there is more expensive.

is that right!
