Rice -3.5 -108
Too many things going against June Jones in his opener with SMU. I think you will see an improved SMU midway through the season after the new offensive scheme gets some game reps. The same can be said for Bo Levi Mitchell who will be playing in his first game. I still think SMU will put some points on the board, but not nearly enough. Their defense isn't good enough to contain Rice's experienced offense. They return 9 starts, including every key position. Rice couldn't ask for a better leader than Clement who knows this offense inside and out and. Mean while he is throwing to all american receiver Jarret Dillard. They have an experienced offensive line with the inside being all seniors, and even more talented tackles. As for defense I am expecting an improved group. They are still young, but now have game experience which should eliminate some of the blown assignements which plauged them all last season. Plus its another year in defensive Guru David Bailiff's 4-2-5 defensive scheme. All this being said one of the most important factors is they are playing at home, which I feel is one of the most important factors in capping college football.
