Rice -3.5 -108

Too many things going against June Jones in his opener with SMU. I think you will see an improved SMU midway through the season after the new offensive scheme gets some game reps. The same can be said for Bo Levi Mitchell who will be playing in his first game. I still think SMU will put some points on the board, but not nearly enough. Their defense isn't good enough to contain Rice's experienced offense. They return 9 starts, including every key position. Rice couldn't ask for a better leader than Clement who knows this offense inside and out and. Mean while he is throwing to all american receiver Jarret Dillard. They have an experienced offensive line with the inside being all seniors, and even more talented tackles. As for defense I am expecting an improved group. They are still young, but now have game experience which should eliminate some of the blown assignements which plauged them all last season. Plus its another year in defensive Guru David Bailiff's 4-2-5 defensive scheme. All this being said one of the most important factors is they are playing at home, which I feel is one of the most important factors in capping college football.

Northwestern -11 -110

Have been bleeding Orange since I was born. It's sad to see where this team has fallen. Plain and simple they don't have the talent to compete anymore. Northwestern is an awful matchup for the Orange. The spread offense will do just that. Spread the field and expose Syracuse's lack of speed and size. There is no way Northwestern's experienced offense doesn't hang 35+ on the Orange. As far as offense Syacuse's offensive line is a joke. Andrew Robinson is an average at best quarterback. He lacks the accuracy that is needed to succeed with the talent he has. Losing Taj Smith early to the draft, and Mike Williams to academics exposes the only strength they may have had. Williams is under sized and lacks the speed to produce consistantly and Lobdell lacks football senses. Running backs are decent, but won't have a prayer to succeed behind a brutal O line. The Orange can maybe get a TD or 2 on the board just cause NW defense is nothing special, but that won't nearly be enough for the cover for what is sure to be another long yr.

Michigan -3 -110

Seems like nobody is giving Michigan much chance in this game? For some reason I just don't see Utah walking into the big house and coming out with a win. I don't care what is said about Rich Rodriguez he is an excellent coach and I think very highly of what he can do. This hiring is exactly what Michigan needed. They need a coach who is in their face. For years I felt they lacked discipline, which led to disappointing seasons such as last. Since the offense will experience a major overhaul Rodriguez putting in his scheme won't be as tough. Sure they will not master the offense right away, but their may be some opportunites against a young Utah D. Michigan's defense will be their strength. They are experienced and talented. They return all the guys upfront, both corners, and bring in a JUCO lineback that will play the strong side. IMO Utah will have a tough time running the ball against Michigan. Mack doesn't have the speed to get to the outside, and will not be able to pound the ball up the middle. I expect Michigan's defense to help the offense and protect their home field.

Thanks Primoz. I love playing on home teams in CFB. Cannot value the importance playing on your home turf.

You have to jump on an opportunity if you see one. I think this is a great spot for Rice. If this were to be the 8th game of the season it may be a different story, but getting the Mustangs right now is a huge advantage.

ya it's tough. no matter how much i love a game i won't touch it against Orange basketball, but Orange football isn't going anywhere so i figure i should make some money on em since they hurt me. i guess it's my way of getting back at them haha

New Mexico +7 -110
Needless to say this is a huge 1st game for both teams. You have to think it will be slightly more important for N. Mexico since they are playing at home and have a brutal opening schedule. Getting a win here can set the tone for another solid season and I expect a focused effort with payback on mind. These teams are pretty similar both relying on defense to carry them. N.Mexico is deep and talented up front, and also return 2 three year starting cornerbacks. Man to man CB play is essential in N.Mexico's defensive scheme and having 2 cb's with such experience is key. On offense N. Mexico returns an experienced backfield in Donovan Porterie and Rodney Ferguson. They have been a part of the huge holes they have dug the past yrs against TCU. Having experienced that I expect a focused effort from Portierie. The importance of this opening game being at home cannot be measured as it should be the difference in covering the game if not getting the outright win.
