A couple weeks ago I mentioned in a post how a friend of mine has been cleaning up in the NHL by simply parlaying chalk. He knows very little about hockey but then there’s something to be said for keeping things simple, having a plan, and sticking to it. I have done none of the above. I’m like a leaf blowing in the wind changing direction at the slightest push. I develop a belief, like playing the draw line in hockey, and then abandon it. So what happens? Games going to OT actually increase from their 25% early season rate. Meanwhile I watch my money boat sail on without me.

Yesterday someone mentioned Soprano and his whereabouts. From what I remembered of his style he’d take huge favorites and play them for jaw dropping amounts of 20 or 40 units, (whatever that means). However, he cleaned up in the post season last year when this trend of heavy chalk covering began. I got news for you all. It hasn’t stopped.

So when artiesliver mentioned this other site he had disappeared to, I had to take a look. Surely he was up ten gazillion units by now. I wasn’t disappointed. Although a hair short of ten gazillion he is having a fabulous year and more power to him. He has a plan…he’s sticking to it…...and it’s paying off. I wish I could say the same about me.

So where do I go from here? I’ve tried playing games on the draw line, parlaying two teamers on the puck line, (taking the goal an a half), first period plays, favorites minus a goal, favorites in regulation, minus a half goal in regualtion, totals, team totals, teasing totals, ……Arrrghhhh. Thank god there isn’t a coin flip in hockey because surely I’d be down with that.

I’m done. I explained to Bushay in a email yesterday that I’ve slowed down my plays considerable opting instead for scalping games. I make pennies on the dollar but at least, I make. Predicting lines moves is far easier than picking who is actually going to win game. At least it is for me…this year….so far.

But in the spirit of HNIC the games, (and losing picks), must go on. So undaunted I offer these plays sure to go horribly wrong. Tailer beware.

Carolina +175 (BetVegasVic)
Carolina TT Over 2.5 +115 (5dimes)

Boson leaves immediately after this game for a five game trip beginning tomorrow in St Louis. Undoubtedly their heads are elsewhere. Matinee meeting, New England snow storm, Christmas rush in Filene’s Basement. Lord knows what’s on their minds but it ain’t hockey. Not today…‘tis the season.

Carolina and Cam Ward are quietly rolling along and winning games. They’ve lost one game in regulation all month. They have endured and recovered from a lengthy laundry list of injured players to find themselves tied for the final spot of the playoffs.

Price is too tempting.

Nashville -.5 regulation -145 (Bookmaker)

Oh man the Islanders are bad. ….and missing. Physically and emotionally. Their injury list would take too long to post here. Last night they lose more in Andy Sutton to a broken foot. The souls remaining look like the walk of the living dead. These guys have lost 10 of their last 11 and have looked really, really bad in doing so. Not your run of a mill 3-2 shootout loses for these guys. 8 loses have been by more than a goal, (a few in the 4 to 7 goal deficit variety).

Nashville fights for every point they can get to make the playoffs. They have a brutal schedule coming up, own a clear advantage in net, are healthy, and always play tough at home. This one won’t be close.

Chicago TT Over 2.5 -140 (5dimes)

Because the Blackhawks have failed to reach 3 goals only 6 times in their last 27 games and Roberto Luongo is watching this one with Mats Sundin on the sidelines.

Parlay
Detroit -315
Pittsburgh -195 (BetVegasVic)
100/99

Because my chalk player parlay loving friend says so.

Vic-
Keep the faith. Things will turn around.
One thing I think I've noticed in recent play is that the favs are covering the puck lines more often than earlier in the season. I think it's because the better teams are starting to separate from the lesser teams. Injuries take their toll on the weaker teams more than the teams with depth, and it gets to be too much for the lesser teams to scrap every night. Thus the game scores reflect the disparity between teams more than they did at the beginning of the season when everyone was healthy and full of energy. At least that's my theory and I'm sticking with it.
Last night was a good example: the 3 games that figured to be mismatches all were decided by more than one goal, NJ, Buffalo and Minny. The other 2 games were much more even matches and went to OT. A small sample to be sure but illustrative nevertheless.

Why do I insist on backing big dogs in the NHL?

Betting on hockey is a mindless propostion today. Find any big favorite and lay your money down.

GL Vic.

I want to lay the chalk with Detroit too, but I guess I'm reminded of last year when LA -0.5 (+300) cashed in Detroit.

That was last year PTB, when there was parity in the NHL.

You guys remember in the NFL a few years ago when all you had to do was bet the opposite of what ever happened the week before? A team would stink it up one week and then win by double digits the next, (as a double digit dog no less).

Today parity is dead in the NFL. I really am beginning to believe it's heading it that direction with the NHL.

7th and 14th in the West separated by 4 points.

While the good teams are starting to separate themselves some-what... the West still shows a lot of parity.

boy oh boy...just skimmed this Thread and Dr Bar suggests a 7 to 10 day Time Out for Mr Victory.

That's pretty much what I did in first of December and suddenly over past week pieces are falling much better, while I have not changed much of my core capping style.

The week to ten day break allows us to get refocused on what we know works without the stress of seeing perhaps several more days of minus card balances.

more later ....I gots to do some revenue chasing and go pick up SheBar's primary holiday gift

I'm so going to Score tonight.....

This is the post that pretty much sends you to the locker room...you're officially ejected from active play until you get your head right.

The Books chortle as they have you right where they want you.

After several weeks of struggling to push past the .500 level on your balance, you're right on tap to play about ten "big faves" over a week (at say -170 avg) and get smashed for about 15 to 20 units.

okay...enough Psycho Analysis....back later

Vic, I have to agree with Barman. Taking a Christmas break could help. Plenty of season left. Although I have to say, you had the right side with Carolina. They skated well and I almost felt they outplayed the Bruins. Keep your picks sharp like that and things will turn around.

Barman, hope you "light the lamp" tonight...lol.

Barman, you may want to look into some of that "Rodeo sex" a friend recently told me about. Interesting.

Well since she's from Brooklyn NY and I'm a 37 year native of the Republic of Texas, here's my theme song to her when all is going right
