Chicago Blackhawks +115 (Bookmaker)

One of the most secure angles in all of sport betting is to take a NHL team in it’s first game after a coaching change. For that reason alone I’ll take this game and number, (which ordinarily I wouldn’t find any value in). This line will not climb any higher than +115,(Pinny currently has it at +120), so I’d grab this one early.

Back with more in the morning

I agree.
Not often you get this angle with a one game winning streak.

Tonight I’m going to back two home, small priced favorites, that I think have tremendous potential. I believe both these teams can go far into the playoffs this year. Tonight will be excellent litmus tests to see if that belief is valid. I’m sure they think this as well and I expect a full effort out both squads.

Washington Capitals -120 (Matchbook)

New Jersey and Marty Brodeur owns the Capitals. Devils are 14-4-1 in the last 19 meetings. Brodeur has a 32-12-4 lifetime mark against Washington. I don’t care. Throw all past history out. This Capitals team is really something special, can’t be compared to Washington teams of the past, and prices at home of -120 won’t be around much longer. That’s a guarantee.

Brent Johnson looks to get the nod from Coach Boudreau tonight and frankly that’s a plus in my mind when I consider Theodore’s porous performance so far in net. Jose’s decision making with the puck has been another liability that has led to goals that should never be.

Edmonton Oilers -120 (BetVegasVic)

Miikka Kiprusoff was so distraught after last night’s loss to Edmonton he reportedly tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a bus. Lucky for him, like everything else, the bus went five hole.

Extremely reasonable price for Edmonton who has done everything right so far this year against a Calgary squad who has done everything wrong.

Flames/Kiprusoff continue to sputter early in the season as they have every year since the lockout. Tonight they may have Curtis McElhinney in net which couldn’t be any worse than subjecting Kiprusoff, (4.69 GAA, .843 SV#), to more anguish.

Edmonton has used their speed and power play to great advantage in their first three games. Their run and gun style has led to 13 PP opportunities and they have converted 5 of them. Last night against Calgary, Edmonton’s speed generated 6 straight PPs. Of the 13 power plays they’ve had this year 9 have been of the interference/holding/hooking variety. This team is loaded with young talent and taking the next step from their strong finish a year ago.

Grand Salami Over 72.5 -105 (BetVegasVic)

Do I really need to explain this one? If I do, you haven't been paying much attention. Take the money and run.

I saw Patrick Kane being interviewed last tonight about the Savard firing and he was crying. The younger players were shocked and obviously saddened. Savard was a father figure to the youngsters on this team.I think the Hawks could come out flat as a pancake tomorrow. Not sure if I'll be touching this game. Will be interesting to see how the youngsters perform tonight.Gl on your picks.

In regard to the Caps game tonight, check out Ray Bourque's kid.

Due to Injuries, Bourque Recalled

Defenseman Tom Poti suffered a strained groin muscle in the first period of Thursday's 4-3 victory in Pittsburgh and is not expected to face the Devils (3-1-0). He joins first line right wing Viktor Kozlov, who is out at least one more week because of a left knee injury, and enforcer Donald Brashear, who is questionable for tonight because of a hand injury.

Because of the injuries up front, the Capitals recalled left wing Chris Bourque late yesterday. Bourque, 22, had a strong training camp and was among the last players to be cut.

The promotion of Bourque probably means Coach Bruce Boudreau is likely to play veteran center Sergei Fedorov on defense tonight. Fedorov replaced Poti for the final two periods of Thursday's game at Mellon Arena and also played on the blue line against the Vancouver Canucks. In fact, it can be argued that the Capitals' best five periods this season (all three against Vancouver, a game in which they yielded a franchise-low 10 shots on goal, and the final two periods against the Penguins) have come with Fedorov playing defense.

Bourque, who is generously listed at 5 feet 10, is a spark plug who finishes his checks but also is capable of scoring, as he showed with his preseason performance. In six exhibition games, Bourque had three goals and three assists. On most teams, that probably would have been enough to score a spot on the opening night roster. But the Capitals, one of the league's deepest teams up front, simply could not find a spot for him. And the fact that he didn't need to clear waivers to be sent to the minors made the decision easier.

I saw the same thing Puckhandler and thought the same as you. However he does finish the interview by saying, "We're going to be alright", or something to that effect. If the kids, Kane, Toews, come out flat than so be it. If that's true than they are not the "professionals" they would appear to be. It was no secret that Savard wasn't a big fan of Havlat and I'll be interested to see how he reacts tonight. Same with Khabibulin who seems to be the final straw in the decision to fire Dennis.

Vic-
I have to ask you, aren't you tempted even a little bit by Minnesota at a plus price? I know Gaborik has been hurt, but this is a disciplined team that plays defense, gets good goaltending almost every night, and can score. Compare that to Tampa Bay which.... well you get the picture.

I looked at it and still haven't ruled it out, (as well as a couple other at plus prices). I jumped on Phoenix early yesterday because I thought Alfredsson was out. Find out a couple minutes before game time he wasn't and before I know it I'm down 4-0. Minnesota has alot more injury concerns than just Gaborik and I'm going to take the cautious approach today. I'm waiting for some clue with the morning skate to see who's in and who's out.

According to Russo, (a few minutes ago),
Coach Jacques Lemaire was keeping the lineup a secret. He said he didn’t think Owen Nolan (leg) would play tonight: “It’s not good enough. So why? It’s not perfect.”

So it sounds like the Wild won’t risk it with Nolan. If he doesn’t play tonight, he’ll be able to get lots of rest for a possible return Thursday against Buffalo.

Marian Gaborik is still not skating with his lower body injury, but he rode the bike this morning. Lemaire wouldn’t say if Krys Kolanos or Tomas Mojzis would play. One of them at least will.

I'll play this one late, at Matchbook, if at all, and try to get the best price possible.

Did you happen to notice if Kane was using a $100 bill or a $1000 bill to wipe the tears away?

No I haven't had a withdrawal yet and I won't keep a large amount in there. They did pick up the fees for my deposit. No sign up bonus because of the reduced juice lines they offer. I do notice if you bet a amount that pays off in cents they will round off the payout to the nearest dollar in their favor. Small complaint especially since this rarely happens with my betting style.

SBR gives them a C rating....

BetVegasVic enters the SBR rating guide at C. VegasVic is a new sportsbook with ties to established bookmakers in Costa Rica. Most Catalinasports (SBR rating C+) accounts have been moved to VegasVic.

Being connected to Catalina sports tells me funds shouldn't be a issue but like dealing with any off shore shop, being cautious is always the prudent approach.

I can tell you that they post their dime line numbers at least 2 hours before 5dimes and for that reason alone I give them a thumbs up.

"He was my first coach in the league," Kane, 19, said. "I think he was just more than anything a great friend. Just the situations he brought us in. He played us (Kane and Jonathan Toews) a lot last year, upcoming rookies, 18 and 19 years old. It’s difficult to see him go but hopefully it’s for the better."

"I’ll admit I shed a few tears [Thursday] night just thinking about it," Kane said. "There's nothing [Savard] really could have done, I don’t think. You definitely feel responsible for the situation. He took the fall for us and it’s tough on us.

New head coach Joel Quenneville knows part of his job will be to win over players, especially Kane, since Savard was so close to them.

"I know [Kane's] a young kid and he’s got a lot to learn on the game but it’s nice he did have a special relationship there and has those feelings toward Savvy," Quenneville said. "I think that’s healthy. I think we grow each and every day. With young kids there's a process to become better each and every day. With Kaner, it’s a situation where we’re aware of everything we need to know and we’ll help him along here and try to get the best out of him."

More I think about it, more I like that Caps play. No Theodore is good... and I really like Fedorov on the blue line. Can't believe I am choosing to watch a Devils game tonight....

GL with your picks. They are solid top to bottom.
