The Bruins have won 24 of their last 27 games. In 20 of those 24 wins they have covered the puck line. They have outscored their opponents 102-54 over this stretch.
I keep looking at the above and just rub my eyes making sure I‘m reading it right. I look at this team’s game log and …..just …..say wow. They’ve lost 4 times since the 23rd of October. In other words they average a loss every 2 ½ weeks. No team should be posting statistics like this in the NHL. The Detroit Red Wings of last year didn’t post these kind of numbers. You’d need to consult ancient history with the Elias Sports Bureau to find any NHL team that has. It has to end…..right?
I want to say yes. All reason dictates it.
I want to take Buffalo today and be ahead of the curve. I want to be the first guy out there to predict when and where the Bruins crash back to reality. I want to be sharp. I tell myself.... don't be a square...don't be a donkey.
I look at this matinee against Buffalo and try to make a case for it today. Buffalo was one of those 3 teams to have beaten Boston over the last 2 months, (3-2 on 11/26). Covers tells me Buffalo has won 19 of their last 28 meetings. Sabres have at least been competitive winning 4 of their last 10 overall.
….however looking at those 4 wins….. Buffalo beat Toronto with CuJo in net, the NY Islanders in a shootout, the Kings with LaBarbera, and the Devils with Weekes. Going all the way back to that win against Boston and you’ll find Buffalo has won only four more games. Two against Tampa Bay, ('nuff said), and two against Pittsburgh. The Pens used Dany Sabourin in net for one game and John Curry for the other. Sabres haven’t beaten anybody of any substance since Thanksgiving.
Any donkey can lay money on a two dollar favorite.
I do it better than most.
Boston -1.5 +150
NY Rangers/Washington Over 5.5 -105
Barman provided us with a telling statistic regarding the Rangers defense in his “Didja Know Thread”. Fortunately for us they can score a couple as well. Even more fortunate the Caps can score better.
San Jose Sharks -1.5 -134
Trivia time:
Name the only team that covers a puck line faster than Boston?
....and finally what can be squarer than a three team teaser/parlay?
Parlay:
NY Rangers/Washington Over 5 -165
Philadelphia/ LA Kings Over 5 -210
NY Islanders/San Jose Sharks Over 5 -210 (5dimes)
