Yah - the best Sci-fi movie Arnold made- with better actors than Terminator or Predator.
Although set in 2084 (100 years after 1984) this 1990 film is a sci-fi classic good vs. evil tale many of whose ideas are being implemented today. All Airports will soon have the currently experimental X-Ray walk through. The implant thing up his nose was the future GPS device or microchip locator.
Was it all just a dream? The reality vs. dream question still argued by fans of this movie. I say- it was reality- since Dr. Edgemar WAS sweating wasnt he?
Mutant to Quaid "Youve got a lot of nerve showing your face around here!"
Quaid: "Look whose talking."
Outrageous idea huh- charging people for monopolized air production- isnt it- while renewable source was right under their noses- or was it? Haha!
Sharon very hot in this one- never looked better-her next stop was Basic Instinct which made her a bonafide Star of Hollywood.
Performances by great character actors such as Ronny Cox as Cohaagen- Michael Ironsides as Richter- Marshall Bell as George/Quatto- Roy Brocksmith as Dr Edgemar - the beautiful and "athletic" (the kind of woman Arnold wished to meet) Rachel Ticotin as Melina and Mel Johnson as the humorous/traitorous Benny and of course the sexy and clever aforementioned Sharon Stone makes this a must see movie for all red blooded American boys.
"Thank you for riding Johnny Cab."
The mutant hooker with three
.
Won an Academy Award for visual effects.
The music by Jerry Goldsmith is first rate - edge of your seat suspense- no wasted footage in the entire movie. I bought a copy of it years ago and always watch it every few months to lift my spirits.
Ending is beautifully done- poetic justice for the rotten bad guys and the promise of a better life for the oppressed mutant people.
In my opinion ***** 5 (out of 5) Star production from top to bottom. Even Arnold sounded good as an actor in this one. Would never have been as good without him.
Can you believe they had originally considered Richard Dreyfuss - and Patrick Swayze- for this. Thankfully Arnold got it and the rest is cinematic history.
Directed by the great Paul Verhoven "RoboCop" "Starship Troopers" "Basic Instinct".
