Herman Cain trails only Chris Christie as the top choice among Republican primary voters in the race for the 2012 Presidential nomination. Mitt Romney ranks fourth, but voters see him as the most likely nominee by a wide margin over the rest of a 13-person field.

One-half of GOP voters say they would never vote for Donald Trump, and more than 30% say they would never vote for Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee or Ron Paul.

These results are from an IBOPE Zogby interactive poll of 1,377 Republican primary voters conducted from May 6-9.

Cain, a businessman and talk show host, seems to have impressed some Republican voters with his performance at last week's South Carolina Republican presidential debate. He receives 14% when GOP voters are asked whom they would vote for if the primary were held today. That places him second to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has said he will not run, but has been the frontrunner in three previous IBOPE Zogby interactive polls (November 2010 and January and March 2011.)

Former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain placed a surprising second in a Zogby poll of likely Republican primary voters released Tuesday.

The poll measured support for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who says he will not run, at 17 percent. Cain was preferred by 14 percent and Texas Rep. Ron Paul by 10 percent.

The results place Cain well ahead of many leading candidates, and come on the heels of a strong performance in Fox News’ May 5 primary debate in South Carolina. Cain was one of five participants.

Candidates widely considered frontrunners all received less than ten percent support.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was supported by 9 percent of respondents and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich by 7 percent.

Businessman Donald Trump, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, and Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels were all supported by four percent.

Zogby also asked respondents to select the candidates that they would never vote for.

Trump led the “never” field with 50 percent, followed by Gingrich at 36 percent, Palin at 36 percent, Huckabee at 34 percent, Paul at 32 percent, and Romney at 27 percent.

The poll was administered online, a different method than used in most scientific polls. There were 1,377 respondents and a calculated margin of error of +/- 2.7 percent.

Billhill you are looking more desperate with every thread. You keep throwing your support behind the flavor of the week. None of whom have a chance to win.

Time to worry about the braves instead of the 2012 election. It's over.

Ps.. I thought u said the line was going down and I would get obama as a dog? Good call.

I'm not a Brave fan Vit, I'm an NYY fan (remember us? I'm sure you do)
I'm a baseball fan that thinks the Braves will give the Phils a run for their money.

Did Beachy pull up lame last night, or just pulled because of no control?

Christ Christie- the 2012 version of Ronald Reagan

We can only hope Christie decides to run- sort of
a Ronald Reagan with an "East Coast" attitude.

Although there is no doubt a Herman Cain vs. Obama
election would be Epic.

We'll see.

Epic? Two blacks against a 1/2 black and really old white dude. That's not Epic? Colin Powell will be reduced to flipping a coin.

I got no problem with Cain, he's smart, personable, a great business man.
Let's do this thing, lace 'em up, book it for Nov. 2012.

I can hear the talk in Bam's war room now, "what do we do now boss? We can't play the race card, last thing we need is the black voter to be given a choice between two blacks"

Hmm, I like it, black Obama voters crossing over to Cain.

I like it a lot.
