I was curious if you ever heard of a large balance in a sportsbook account that sat for several months a year or was never played again,,,which would more than likely mean something very serious happened to the account holder...any good stories on that subject?

I had the opposite happen to me back in the 70's an old bookmaker died (around 75 years old at least) who I owed $975 to. Actually at the time it was not chump change, but I was very sorry when the old guy passed. I still owe him.

If we could get some bookies in on this subject I'm sure we could get some very interesting stories...but they probably won't tell.....maybe Judge or Dicky could chime in.

Speaking of old bookies..I knew this old guy I worked with when i was working in the deli as a kid...he hooked me up with this bookie, I was lucky enough to beat him the first week...I go to collect and the guy (actually I'm not sure if they were partners or what) but the one guy was completely bed ridden (this was the guy that took the bets over the phone!) with tubes hooked up to him like he had a terminal illness or atleast very seriously disabled...creeped me out going there to settle up....LOL, they were so matter of fact about booking out of their condo it was a joke....I get out to the car and look at the money for about an hour I thought the money was counterfeit!LOL...It had a funny look to it, the 50's the print came thru in one area (this was back in the late 80's)...I cashed that money in asap..it turned out all the 50's had the same smudge ...I wonder if they are still taking bets it was a strange operation...they would also mail out money orders to pay off lol...crazy!

We had one guy die on us once......His best friend called us up and informed us of his death. The guy who died had 106 (if Im not mistaken) wagers that saturday afternoon he died.......

How someone can place that many wagers and know how they're doing for the day is beyond me :D

His wife called up to report the death also, we sent her the remaining funds.

Thats the extent of death-gambling I can relate to.....
