This is one of the more accurate looking polls that I've seen..Although I think OU's pass defense is a little too much of a mess right now for the Sooners be rated as high as number 1. Especially since they come from a conference full of great passing teams.

FSU at 22 is ridiculous. Have you seen what they are calling an "Offensive Line"? It's a joke. It's a 1AA line. The offense will be lucky to average 300ypg. Their D ain't good enough to carry them. And playing Clemson at home is no advantage. Their "home field advantage" has been reduced to playing a game at Duke or Arkansas State! They are selling season ticket packages for less than $200 in a desperate attempt to fill the stadium!

(Here I go again!)......

i actually disagree with a lot of those rankings
it's easy to get the top top or so right

but how do you have 15 teams ranked above tennessee??
unc ahead of wake is the definition of disrespect
northwestern and iowa listed and not mich st??
how in the world is cal ahead of illinois..?? and i'm not even that high on the zookers
and don't even get me started w/ louisville anywhere near a top 40 poll..!!

there's plenty more but it's redundant (sub a lot of different names on the lines mentioning unc, cal, nw and iowa)

One thing that i've never been clear about with these polls is are they ranking these teams by where they are now, or how they think they're going to finish at the end of the year? If it's an end of the year type of poll then I think it's pretty accurate. Trent..Tennessee may have a better team than 10 teams above them, but with their tough schedule it doesn't mean they're going to finish that way.

they won the toughest division in all of cfb last year!!
i think they have a better chance of finishing top 10 than out of the top 25
and i have a future on uf to win nc so i'm not speaking with my heart here
no way should they be ranked where they are imo, i don't care if it's about beginning, middle, or end of the season

I agree that they should be ranked somewhere in the top 20 at the end of the year..So the poll probably is wrong in that respect..But Tennessee's schedule isn't much easier than Georgia's with having to play road games at Auburn, Georgia and South Carolina, with Florida at home. And Bama is never an easy game for Tennessee. I still think it's going to be hard for any team in that conference this season to get out of there with less than 2 losses.

By the way Trent, I agree with you that Tennessee is a great future's play for the NC....Read my latest blog. But they've still got to negotiate their tough schedule..If they can somehow get out of this conference with just one loss, they'll be playing for the NC. At these high of odds, it's worth taking a shot with them.

texas has as tough a schedule but are ranked 15
go through the position groupings and i think you'll find tenn is better than texas
hence, there is no way tenn should be 26 if texas is 15

I can't put Oklahoma at #1 because of their defensive backfield. Have I ever told you that I don't like Brent Venerables? LOL I've never seen a DC that moved so many players around at different positions instead of putting them where they fit best and allow them time to learn the position. He has changed Lindy Holmes from CB to safety to CB and back to safety again since the Spring. That shit just gets all over me . . . .

I may be wrong, but I don't remember Mike Stoops shuffling so many players around whenever he was DC. Venerables fucks with his defensive backs every damn year. No wonder they don't do well, they probably don't know what part of the field they are on half the time! Geeeeeez . . . . . .

I'm not so sure Tennessee is better than Texas...This we'll just have to see. Texas has more question marks. But the talent level is pretty even. It's just a matter of if the Horns can put things together...Especially on defense under Muschamp. One thing I can tell you, Texas is good enough to have a decent chance at beating OU on a neutral field...But they may or not be good enough to beat Mizzou or Texas Tech on the road..

you can argue for or against either team...
my point is that they are so close and both play a similar schedule in the two toughest divisions in the country that there should not be that big a discrepancy between their rankings..

if texas is 15, then tenn should be either 14 or 16...
not 26

i'm waiting till after scrimmages are done but my future play with tenn will probably be over... i can't take them for nc because i already have uf and that would guarantee me a loser
with mizz, oh st, and usf i not only have 3 other shots, i can actually have both teams in the nc... if i take tenn there is no way both they and UF get in together

I absolutely hate what the Sooners are doing on defense..It's just magical chairs every year...And it's even worse this year because of all the young players vying for the CB positions. Their best LB Reynolds isn't even playing the same position as last year being moved to MLB. Right now I can easily see OU going to places like Kansas State and OSU and getting burned by the big pass from those spread offenses. At this point, I would be very surprised if OU can even win the Big 12. Much less the NC. I'm starting to see the same old crap..And the season hasn't even started.

Thanks

Glad to generate NCAA discussion. Baseball is just too long.

Some comments:

I'm thinking for long term over short term. Tennessee may be just as good as Texas, but they have to replace a long time starting QB and the SEC is more brutal week in and week out, although the Big 12 is close this year. I also put this together before UCLA had their QB issues so Tennessee looks like they'll get a win right off the bat.

Florida State has more returning talent than usual. Those who discussed Wake Forest are indeed right. Wake is dangerous and a fun team to follow. They could beat FSU because the FSU suspensions will still be in effect. I still think FSU has a better overall season.

I have UNC ahead of Wake, but it's close! As for Michigan State, I agree they have more talent than Iowa but the schedule is brutal and Iowa's is just too soft. Northwestern may be a bit of a hunch as I just do not know if Fitzgerald can break back the big time record Randy Walker achieved, but I like the scheduling spot they get vs. the Spartans.

No poll is perfect. Good luck to everyone this season!

Georgia at #8 but Florida (a 4 loss team last year) at #4?

You are worse then Hitler..how the hell can you drop a teams ranking just because they have a difficult schedule?

ALL preseason polls are a farce and a waste of time... The only thing they do is allow those to bicker about this n that (which makes College football fun).....

Geeeeeez . . . . . .
You are beginning to remind me of that fat ass Jim traber, same conversation.
