<!--endclickprintexclude-->AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- The youngest son of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was arrested early Friday and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest, law enforcement officials said.

John Ellis Bush, 21, was arrested by agents of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission at 2:30 a.m. on a corner of Austin's Sixth Street bar district, said commission spokesman Roger Wade.

The nephew of President Bush was released on $2,500 bond for the resisting arrest charge, and on a personal recognizance bond for the public intoxication charge, officials said.

Wade said he had no further details about the charges.

Gov. Bush and his wife, Columba, appeared Friday evening at a museum reception in Miami.

"My son's doing fine. It's a private matter. We will support him. We're sad for him. But I'm not going to discuss it on the public square with 30 cameras," the governor told reporters.

It's not the first time Florida's first family has experienced legal problems with one of their children.

Noelle Bush, the governor's daughter, was arrested in January 2002 and accused of trying to pass a fraudulent prescription at a pharmacy to obtain the anti-anxiety drug Xanax. She completed a drug rehabilitation program in August 2003 and a judge dismissed the drug charges against her.

Let me guess. You don't have kids. And you were perfect growing up. Never got in trouble at all. I can tell by all your anger issues that's likely not true. If this is some kind of attempt to paint the Bush family as bad parents, I'm afraid the logic fails with some of us who are parents. Even excellent parents sometimes have kids who get in trouble. I don't know whether the Bushs are good or bad parents. I do know that bringing this stuff into forum chat boards tells us more about you than it does them.

C2C, the Bushes have a huge history of legal trouble. Doc's post is consistent with that. If this was a first time thing, I don't think he would have posted the article.

Having said that, I swear there is not an easier state to get arrested in other than Florida.

Coast: I have never been arrested and neither have my sister or brother ....

Junior is the only President with a Criminal background and ALL of Jebs kids have Police records and Jena Bush herself has been arrested a few times ... hell, her old man has an "interesting" background include a coke bust in the early 1970's in Houston

The again, being Grampa Bush traded illegally with the Nazis it is one of them "traits" that runs in the family

Coast, welcome to the board, I see you have also realized that Doc has serious anger issues. I've told him to get a hobby, but seems he'd rather just sit at the keyboard being pissed off all day.

and Redneckman is the man with a track record along the linese of George Michael and Pee Wee Herman so hearing advice from the "Master Slapper" is not exactly like hearing from the Big Man Above ....

I guess my point was lost. What does a child getting arrested have to do with the performance of a politician? Unless they are taking active roles in politics themselves, the actions of children, spouses and girlfriends/boyfriends of politicians ought to be off limits on chat boards. One problem we have in this country is that people try to attack politicians by attacking their families. If that was not the purpose of this post, then what was the purpose? I just don't agree that such an approach to personal attacks on family members is appropriate. It just futher disintegrates proper discourse. Let me ask it this way: If your child got arrested, would you want your boss firing you, giving you a negative performance review or drawing attention to it in some kind of public forum? I think not. If you wouldn't want that kind of treatment from your boss, then why would you give essentially that same kind of treatment to politicians? We are politicians' bosses in a sense. We hire and fire them. We should judge them on the way they think about issues and perform their jobs...not based on what their kids do. These kids have enough problems being sons and daughters of public figures. Leave them alone.

C2C,
Don't want to speak for Doc as he is certainly capable of doing that for himself, however if you have kids that have gotten in trouble like mine have then you understand it is at minimum a distraction. The Bush family does seem to have more than their share of substance abuse issues though, sad but true, would'nt you agree?

Hell take it back to Prescott Bush and his illegal trading with the Nazis ...

dont forget Neil Bush of Silverado S&L fame and Junior with his Insider Trading scheme @ Harken Energy ....

To hear Bush 41 tout the "family morals" of the Bushes is as funny as hearing Paris Hilton claim she is looking for a job
