MADRID (AFP) - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said he was not disappointed that a two-day conference on the future of Iraq, hosted by his country earlier this week, failed to set a date for the withdrawal of foreign troops.
We cannot say we are disappointed," Mubarak said Wednesday following talks with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
"No date was fixed owing to the current situation (in Iraq). Fighting is ongoing and the situation is not stable. "When an Iraqi army is in place, when the situation has stabilised, we will be able to fix a set date for the withdrawal of the multinational force from Iraq," said Mubarak, who hosted the conference in Sharm El-Sheikh before heading to Madrid on a two-day visit.
