College football already has several openings for a new head coach.

Southern Cal
South Carolina
Miami
Maryland
Minnesota
Illinois
Central Florida
North Texas

Two head coaches (Justin Fuente, Memphis) and (Tom Herman, Houston) will certainly get a lot of attention
because of the jobs they have done at their respective schools. Others, like Alabama assistants Kirby Smart,
Lane Kiffin and Mario Cristoball will be popular interviews. One coach I believe would be a great fit for South
Carolina is Washington State's Mike Leach. He would be great for the SEC East and has proven he can win with
lessor athletes.

Love to know who you think would be good fits/hires for the above openings..............

I think it's safe to say Matt Campbell (Toledo) can be added to a list of hot up-and-coming Coaches. Granted, he acts like he's living the dream life with his current job at Toledo, but he has never seen the type of cash that will be thrown his way...

As for South Carolina, I would welcome Justin Fuente, but I don't think he's the front runner, or near the top at this time, but definitely on the short list...

PJ Fleck (Western Mi) will be a hot name also, perhaps Rutgers or Illinois.

Matty, Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart should get a strong look from South Carolina. Smart
makes $1.5 million at Bama and would love the Georgia job if Richt ever leaves, but he wants to be a head
coach, especially in the SEC.

What Justin Fuente has done at Memphis is remarkable. Memphis may have the worst facilities in Division I
football. He will certainly get some opportunities once the season is over.

I actually said Smart would be the next coach at SC two years ago (was laughed at on here). He will get $3.5-4M to come to SC, but honestly, he's still a huge gamble, and really not my favorite pick at the moment...

I can't believe a college assistant coach makes $1.5 million a year. WTF? That is whacked. Why would you ever want to leave? Except if the head guy leaves/is fired you are fucked, but that is unbelievable to me.

No shit! That and a weatherman have to be the best jobs ever as you can be paid well to be wrong, get fired (maybe), and land an even better job. Not to mention all the other clauses in the contracts that allow you to gain massive wealth for being fired or leaving. It really is unbelievable...

Agree. After Saban disciple Muschamp failed miserably, hiring another Saban DC is certainly a gamble. Honestly, other than making $1.5 million, I'm not sure what Smart is hanging around for. He's either waiting out the UGA job or waiting for Saban to retire and taking over at Bama. He's certainly been offered other lesser jobs.

I think SC hires a proven head coach.

Fuente will definitely be a head coach somewhere other than Memphis next year.

There will be a few more openings in the next couple of weeks as well...

$4 million a year and run your own program.

Right now, my first choice would be Fuente. His player development looks extraordinary.

Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin will be a head coach somewhere next year. I
know he would love to be somewhere on the west coast but he would jump at the chance
to head a program again anywhere.

Miami maybe???

Word. And Memphis is a ghetto too surrounded by SEC teams. What SC needs the most is an excellent recruiter...

Man I can't wait to see the NCAA infractions that come out of that deal if he makes it to Miami.

I haven't heard any kind of 'wish list' from South Carolina but I would think Fuente would be on it.
Like I said earlier...what he did at Memphis was remarkable.

I still would like to see SC bring in a guy like "The Pirate".

The "wish list" at the moment seems to be topped by Tom Herman, with a possibility of snagging Ellis Johnson out of retirement (A SC resident already) to run the Defense to start (maybe bring back Strong in a few years after the Texas job). Fuente gets a look for sure, but folks seem to think he's an x's and o's guy and not a good enough recruiter. I don't know if I agree with that or not...We shall see. Mike Leach may get a look, but i haven't seen him on a wish/short list yet...

Matty, I don't think SC will consider Mike Leach at all...just someone I think could bring some
excitement to the SEC. Wishful thinking on my part.

By the way, I wouldn't be surprised if Virginia Tech, Virginia, Nebraska and Georgia are looking
for a new coaches next year. Pretty sure Virginia will be open and if Nebraska doesn't make it to
a bowl...could be trouble after just one year for Mike Riley. Georgia losses to Florida and the howls
are going to be loud from Dog fans. Beamer has been great for VT but time for him to retire.

Herman would be a great hire....so would Withers (at James Madison). Both learned from Meyer and both have previous head coaching experience.

Imo, Richt wants out. He doesn't look like he's having fun anymore....and he's made a lot of references to "when I retire". He also talks about his religion quite a bit (and that he wants to do some sort of missionary work).

Beamer has totally overstayed his welcome. He should bow out after this year....but he's said he wants his son to take over when he leaves, which is a joke. His son is part of their downward spiral.

UVA should have canned London last year.

Will Nebraksa fire Riley after 1 year? Should have never hired him. One of the worst hires in the last 10 years by a major program....second maybe to Muschamp.

Yeah Coach...Nebraska hiring Riley was a head scratcher for me also. He
has Purdue, Michigan State, Rutgers and Iowa left. I'm not sure the Huskers
will beat Purdue Saturday. He loses tomorrow and all hell will break loose.
