University of Hawaii football could be sacked because of a financially challenged athletic department. Athletic Director Ben Jay told the Board of Regents recently, "There is a real possibility of football going away." Hawaii athletics has run at a deficit 11 of the past 13 years. Going broke and they are not even paying players yet...providing big insurance policies, etc.. How can this be?

There are many more programs than Hawaii in trouble!

That would suck - there's not much better than watching UH at 2:00 a.m. after a long day of football and drinking.

Got a laugh out of that one Mr. M.

Not so much lately but damn sure been there in the past my friend watching the Rainbows after a long day of betting (and few cold ones).

Conferences and schedules with all the travel involved are putting a tremendous about of financial pressure on these little guys. It's all about the big boys...no one seems to give a rats behind about how the others survive and that pisses me off.

Yeah there's nothing better than a midnight eastern kickoff for some late night degen action....

i wonder if they would be better going the Indy route and playing 9 home games a year, get 1 of the major cable networks get the TV rights to a few of the game home games for some TV money. I'm sure they could get teams to come out there and play. Go play 1 game a year at a big name opponent and get a nice check there. They dont get a whole lot from the MWC TV contract, but they do get some from the PPV on the islands.

what sucks for me is wash first game of the season is in Hawaii I was going to buy that game down to less then 2 TD and put 2 dimes on it.. cant put money on visitors to the big island .. now if Hawaii do have money problems and cut their traveling budge I will enjoy this cash cow as a road team to get smashed due to big tired from traveling

The title of this thread hooked me.
The real question is has Hawaii football ever not been in trouble?

Hi! I haven't posted awhile in mlb because I really stunk at it. I thought I'd give UH football a try when I came across Clover's thread. Ben Jay kind of stuck his foot in his mouth with that remark. I think he was just frustrated at poor ticket sales and not enough booster money. UH football will not go away. They feed the smaller men's sports and the women's sports. Not enough money for such a big pie.
Anyway, I'm going to start a thread before the Washington game, mainly giving late information about the game. If I see any Huskies surfing or sunbathing, I'll let you know. Lol. Bye!
