I am new to this site and to horse racing betting in general...can someone please explain to me if it is possible what exactly some of the terms mean like:

exacta or exacta box

or

trifecta or trifecta box

or

what the back-slash and then the and means

i use BODOG racebook and am trying to understand everything...all of you guys do such an incredible job i though i would try to hop on board

A Exacta Is Betting Horses To Come In 1 And 2 In That Order..so Lets Say You Think #5 Will Win And #6 Will Come In Second You Would Bet A 5/6 Exacta For $2.00

A Exacta Box Is Betting The Same 2 Horse But Boxing Them So You Would Bet 5/6 Box And It Would Cost You 4.00 And You Win If It Comes In 5/6 Or 6/5
Now You Can Do The Same Thing With A Trifecta You Can Bet 3 Horse To Finish In The Exact Order 5/6/7 2.00 Bet

Or You Can Take A 3 Or 4 Or 5 Etc Box And As Long As 3 Of Those Horses Finish 1,2,3 You Win..of Course As Youadd More Horses To Any Box The Price Goes Up.

You Can Also Key A Horse Say You Really Liked The 5 For A Exacta Or Trifecta, You Could Key The 5...and Then Play Horses Behind It. But The 5 Must Win...and You Must Have The Horses Behind It.

Probably Not The Best Explanation, But I Hope It Helps.

As Far As The Names Of The Horses...you See Those Are Picks For A Given Race..the Top Three Pick Usally That A Handicapper Likes

if you have a sure winner 5 dimes pays 10% bonus on the win price at the big tracks. no bonus if you lose.

thanks for everyones help....i think i get the exacta and trifecta think now....the box or no box was throwing me off

i really appreciate everyones help here as i know the common goal is for everyone to win money no matter how you gotta do it....my next question would be who are some of the better cappers on here in honesty...

and if someone wouldnt mind tomorrow when they post there picks would they post what they bet like WPS or exacta or what not....if you are not comftorable and would like to e-mail me that would be great

and the last thing is like tonight when i bet on BODOG racebook exotix elegance to WPS for $2 is there anyway to find out how much i could win cause bodog does not tell u that....it just tells u how much u risk...once again THANK YOU SO MUCH for everyones help

UT , your payout on a WPS bet isn't determined until after the race is run so that is why there is no payout listed next to your wager ..........as far as BODOG goes , if you are bettin just WPS , they are ok , although their rebate is only like 2.5% paid weekly as opposed to 7% DAILY at PINNACLE ............Also , if you hit a large pick 3 or pick 4 , they limit your payout to 300-1 ( so if you bet a $1 pick 3 or pick 4 and it pays $1000 for a $1.00 base wager , all you're gonna get is $300.00 ) stick to books that have no cap on exotic payouts and pay FULL TRACK ODDS !!!

All wagers pay maximum 300/1.

Maximum $500 risk per wager on Win, Place and Show bets.

Maximum $300 risk per wager on all exotics.

Maximum payout of $50,000 per wager.
