Iona @ Siena

Siena is a team that returned all 5 starters from last years #13 seed in the tourney that pounded Vandy. They have won their last 7 at home and are 9-0 in conference play. They absolutely put the clamps on team at home, allowing only 63.4 PPG, while scoring 78 PPG.

But this Iona team is rolling. For the second time ever, and the first time since the 1997-98 season, Iona went 2-0 on the trip to the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area. They have been showing fight in these last games. They beat conference rival Manhattan in a game played at Madison Square garden by 20, won at Buff and Niagra and went into Rider and lost by 1. They shoot well and rebound well on the road on conference and just seem to have too much momentum coming into this game to get blown out.

Siena doesnt shoot the 3 ball very well. When they beat teams, they pound them inside, like last game against Niagra. They were 1-9 from 3 and 35-51 from 2. They look to drive and get easy buckets. This however will not be easy against Iona who got 6'9" Springer back and they have 7'0" Jonathan Huffman inside.

I expect Siena to win this game but I think it will be close.

Marquette @ ND

Everyone seems to like this play today. I just hated the way Marquette played in the second half saturday at home against awful DePaul. They were outscored by 5. I dont see Notre dame losing 2 in a row at home.

However! McNeal is a very good defender on the outside for Marquette and may be able to shut down McCalarney. James, Mcneal should be able to use their speed and athletism to get ND fits at the guard spot.

Marquette has won 8 of the last 11 in this matchup. I just dont like their size downlow. This game should be won down low in the beginning and then ND came open it up from the outside.

There are just so many things that make me wanna take Marquette in this game!! Besides James they all shoot FT very well. They start 4 seniors and a junior who have won before in ND and played well there in loses. Marquette covered in both games against ND last year. They lost by 3 at ND and blew them outta the gym by 26 at home. In the game at ND McNeal played awful shooting 3-15 from the field.

neither of these teams turns the ball over very much, but Marquette plays the better defence. Limit Gody to 20 and keep Mac to less then 16 this game is in the bag. This game is iffy but I think I have a winner

Obviously

Canisius +13.4 (2 units -104) is supposed to be +13.5 above, my mistake.

Adding

Akron @ Youngstown St.

Akron is coming off a big emotion victory against Kent St. While Youngstown St opened eyes in defeating Horizon League preseason favorites Cleveland St at home. It is never easy for a non conference game on the road on a monday night to be mixed in to a tough conference schedule like Akron has here tonight.

Akron does not play well in week day games and to travel to a Horizon league team that is going to be pumped up to play you and to cover this spread is going to be a tough task. I expect YSU to come out ready to play and keep this game close at home.

YSU has size down low to handle Akron. Akron is the worst rebounding team in the MAC. This will not look like a big MAC school vs a bad Horizon League team on the court. The size will be in YSU's advantage. YSU leads the Horizon in Offensive Rebounds with almost 13 per game at home.

Akrons advantage is at the guard play with the 3 point shot. I dont like riding on the 3 point shot on the road in a game like this to be a great advantage however.

3 point road shooting for Akron
@ Ohio 6-25
@ BG 5-21
@ MI OH 6-22
@ RI 6-25

As you can see they are not shy to put it up.

An enthusiastic crowd of 6,249 was the most at the Beeghly Center since 6,339 saw YSU edge the Zips 71-68 on Jan. 31, 1987, in Ohio Valley Conference action. I hope they are rocking again tonight. They should be pretty loud with a another Ohio team and MAC school coming in.

The public is all over Akron in this game.

Well I am liking things right now,

Marquette up 5 with under 1 min
Iona tied with 4 min to go
Canisius battling only down 4 with 3:30 left

Now if I could get YSU to rebound and hit FT they may have a chance

thought i hit that marquette game head on. The seniors i mentioned along with the junior Haywood controlled the game and shut down the guards up top. McNeal is the best defender in the big east. They made their FT were able to survive even tho getting out rebounded. Not sure why everyone on this forum was on the ND train tonight. Jackson and Mcalarney are too inconsistent.

Siena did what i said they would. Shoot awful from 3 and Iona's size was a factor. Springer played real well and Huffman was 7'0" tall real well.

Canisius was an easy play, should have put more on it.

YSU laid an egg in the second half, o well
