Funny thing is, now many Dems adopt the line that they knew that there would be no surge in violence or increased proliferation of assault weapons. "Wasn't really a ban," etc.

FoP spokesman says that the whole assault weapons thing was really just a fashion trend (hence the need for sweeping federal legislation, just like we did with leg warmers and afros on white people.)

Sad, sad story of spin and sputter here.

You never had a real assault weapons ban.
People who held them before the law came in were allowed to keep them and other daft stuff etc etc.

It was like "we're banning heroin but anyone that's a user is exempt."

The UK has a REAL guns ban.

Whatever ban they installed was ludicrous to begin with, and installed with the same fear based mentality as the Patriot Act.....

The laws that were on the books already had prohibited the ownership of automatic weapons by the common public. This so-called ban attacked semi-automatic weapons that "looked evil", and didn't factor into the rate of fire for these weapons......there was no need for this ban, just enforce the laws already on the books.

An "evil, military looking" semi-automatic rifle will kill someone just as well and as easy as an average 30.06 or .308 that a common hunter would possess.

As far as that article stating the use of bayonet lugs.......is someone really concerned about a knife on the end of a rifle when all the shooter has to do is be within a couple hundred yards to shoot someone? Is a knife on a stick really something we should be all that more concerned about, when the rifle itself has capabilities well beyond what a simple slicing action would cause?

Should I be more concerned if a nuke missile that can level a city has the option of having a hand grenade strapped to it?

The vast majority of crimes involving firearms are committed with handguns, as one would expect. Here's a graphic from the justice department on crimes involving firearms, although only current until 2003.
