For Informants: If You Oppose Obamacare, Even in ‘Casual Conversation,’ the White House Wants to Know About It

If you see anybody publicly opposing President Obama’s plan to implement a government-centric overhaul of the health care system, the White House wants you to report that person (or persons) ASAP.
From the White House website:
There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.
Emphasis added. Of course, as we’ve seen in the health care debate to date, the term “disinformation” is used by the Obama White House as a catchall to describe any opposition to the President’s push for single-payer, government-run health care — meaning the White House wants to be informed of any forwarded emails or blog posts or any “casual conversations” that could be taken as opposition to their health care overhaul plan.
The White House has, as yet, offered no explanation of what it is they plan to do with the tips on policy opposition they hope to receive from citizen informers.
Interestingly, as Jake Tapper pointed out on Twitter this morning, the title of that post on the White House is a quote from John Adams’ 1770 “Argument in Defense of the Soldiers in the Boston Massacre Trials.”

I suspect Punter's behind this! I told them to hide all the sharp objects, but they didn't listen.

this is way beyond that punter. we are talking about censoring here. i dont remember the GW admin putting up messages on the internet asking for public assistance to track down opposition. when he called the blue dogs in, what do you think he told them? i have pictures of you doing..., we will cut campaign funding, we will ruin you, etc????? all this to quell opposition because they are trying to save face and show dominance. sounds like gestapo tactics to me. maybe guido will be coming to a parking lot near you.

I listen to neutral news and I read good papers. I believe that I will recive better news than listing to a poster (BFL) that has been a spammer for the status quo in in our deeply faulted healthcare system.

Damnit...

You've got me looking over my shoulder for Guido. PPPlayer has me on the lookout for the agents of Them rolling through my community "killing all the freedom loving Americans" in my friends and family.

TR has me calling my bank each morning to make sure my American currency is still valid.

And Lauren78 has me feeling the willie nelsons every time I drive past a Catholic church.

I may need to find a new cyber hangout. My neck hurts.

You know if the healthcare insurance industry keeps sending their lobbyist around to remind lawmakers of all the money they gave them, Its only right for the White House to send some people around to remind them of who they are supposed to be representing.

A Republican senator is calling for the White House to suspend a new project that asks members of the public to flag “fishy” claims about President Obama’s health care plans, arguing that it raises privacy concerns and will serve to chill free speech.
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, is sending a letter to the White House today asking the president to “cease this program immediately” -- or to explain how Americans’ privacy will be protected if e-mails are forwarded to the White House as requested.
“I am not aware of any precedent for a President asking American citizens to report their fellow citizens to the White House for pure political speech that is deemed ‘fishy’ or otherwise inimical to the White House’s political interests,” Cornyn writes
“I can only imagine the level of justifiable outrage had your predecessor asked Americans to forward emails critical of his policies to the White House. I suspect that you would have been leading the charge in condemning such a program -- and I would have been at your side denouncing such heavy-handed government action.”
Yesterday, White House director of new media Macon Phillips wrote a blog posting urging readers to flag questionable claims about health care proposals.
