Additionally, the Gaborik contract talks could be a distraction. Then again it's always possible he could be dealt to a team before the season is done that would utilize his talents more than Minnesota.
"Not making any headway," said Risebrough, who last month said it would be prudent to sign Gaborik, the team's all-time leading scorer, to an extension by next Saturday's season opener. "I was trying to do something before the season. It's not happening. ... It's not going to happen by the start of the season."

I actually like the play on Gaborik a lot. First, Gaborik is Minney's only legitimate threat, and IMO a top 5 sniper in the league. Second, Gaborik is one of those money-first players, who cares more about money than winning. Therefore, he will be motivated to put up big numbers this year to get that big fat contract. Finally, Vinnie has just signed a sick deal, and has little motivation to reach new levels. The only thing that worries me is injuries, but hopefully Gaborik can either remain healthy, or miss enough games to void the bet.
Other bets that look good...
Turco (GAA) -- that's a definite play. Vic is totally right. This should be at like -150 for Turco.
Vokoun (GAA) -- -130 is ok juice for a guy who should outduel Ryan Miller, probably the most overrated goalie in the league, playing on a team that relies a lot on an uptempo style of play. Florida has little to no offence, and just picked up two solid dmen for their best scorer. They should lose a lot of 2-1 games, but that's better than Buffalo's 4-3 wins.
Vanek (goals) -- One guy underperformed (Vanek), and one guy did what he'll never do again (Sharp). Both ended at 36... way too much value with the more skilled Vanek. He should beat Sharp.
Zetterberg (points) -- I think Zetterberg has a great chance to win the scoring title this year. Younger and better than Thornton, while also playing with better linemates and in a contract year.
