CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A man who heckled President Bush at a political rally was fired from his job at an advertising and design company for offending a client who provided tickets to the event.

The fired graphic designer said Saturday he won't try to get his job back.

"I'm mad less about losing the job - I'm more mad about the reasons," said Glen Hiller, 35, of Berkeley Springs. "All I did was show up and voice my opinion."

Hiller was ushered out of Hedgesville High School on Tuesday after shouting his disagreement with Bush's comments about the war in Iraq war and the search for weapons of mass destruction. The crowd had easily drowned out Hiller with its chant: "Four more years."

"He surrounds himself with people who support him," Hiller said of Bush. "Your opinion ... is viewed as right or wrong."

When he showed up for work at Octavo Designs of Frederick, Md., the following morning, he said he was told he'd embarrassed and offended a client who provided tickets to the event - and that he was fired.

The client was a public relations worker who represents the Berkeley County school district, he said. "It's just bizarre that you disagree with them and it all turns evil," Hiller said.

Messages left with Octavo Designs were not immediately returned Saturday.

The father of two young girls had worked at the design firm for five months, doesn't plan to appeal the firing, and holds no grudge against his boss.

"To some degree I can see her point of view," Hiller said. "Advertising is all about having the perfect tan and driving a cool car. It's all about image."

Hiller said he now plans to pursue work as a registered nurse, a field in which he worked for 10 years before landing the design job.

Last month, Charleston City Council apologized to two protesters arrested for wearing anti-Bush T-shirts to the president's July 4 rally. The pair were taken from the event in restraints after revealing T-shirts with Bush's name crossed out on the front and the words "Love America, Hate Bush" on the back. Trespassing charges were ultimately dismissed.

I'm getting a very strong impression that Bush is a pussy - wimp who's pissed off at the fact that he's only 5' 10".

Yo Wil,

Way to alienate the base. 5 foot 9 and a half - never felt inadequate or height-challenged until your last post.

Will now seek to coalesce with other sub- 70 inchers to change current regime.

How is this an issue with Bush again?

Guy didn't work for Bush.

"Offended" client not connected to Bush.

Dumbass employer who bases firing decisions on political correctness rather than meaningful factors (their right mind you) not connected to Bush.

In other news, Bush campaign expected to run heavy spin on the issue of Tampa's devastating at-home shutout at the hands of Oakland. Kerry quoted as saying the 5-0 loss "typifies the way George W. Bush has reneged on his 2000 campaign promises to the Devil Rays."

Looking at it another way, lets say Mr. Hiller heckled Devil Ray manager Lou Pinella, do you think he would be still working at the graphic design job? Heckle the presedent this one or any other, and you risk losing your job, doesn't sound fair but what really is these days.

I've fired a guy once for spitting on my client's driveway...I know who pays my bills. Pity this clown didn't know who paid his.

It's not just this incident. This is about the fifth or sixth time that I've heard of someone being booted, arrested and/or denied access solely because they expressed displeasure with him; it's ridiculous.

Not to belabour the obvious, but once again, George Bush had absolutely nothing to do with this guy getting fired. And at the end of it, he was not fired for criticising Bush -- he was fired for pissing off a client. It's a shame that the client is a Bush-supporting dipshit, but on the other hand, it's a shame that Hiller -- regardless of his political leanings -- doesn't know how to act like a grown-up in public, and that this behaviour led to him losing his job.

Its a bit like when the incument Irish Prime minister visited my secondary school in the early 1990's (Charles Haughey). I got suspended for refusing to shake his hand, turning my back on him, refusing to stand when he arrived. I knew then he was a gangster. We all know it now.

Wrong time, wrong place, but if you don't luke who leads your country, there is no harm in saying it.

If you disagree with this regime you are considered an enemy of the state. Bush must go.

What was actually more interest than the firing was -

"Last month, Charleston City Council apologized to two protesters arrested for wearing anti-Bush T-shirts to the president's July 4 rally. Freedom of speech = arrest?
At least they only had their rights trampled for 7 weeks.
