I received a traffic citation this morning for returning to my house after dropping my kids off at school. There is a sign as you enter my neighborhood that states "No entry between 6:30 am and 9 am", which is there to deter people from cutting through the neighborhoods on school mornings. I figured when the cop pulled me over that he would just verify that I lived in the neighborhood and send me on my way. Nope, he said it was black and white issue, no exceptions. I explained to him that I work out of my house and was returning from dropping my kids off at school, which is the truth. There were seven cars pulled over while I was there for 15 minutes, 5 of them were residents of the neighborhood (4 were stay at home moms.) In the 2-1/2 years that I have lived in this house there has never been an officer enforcing this.

I plan on showing up at court to contest this. Am I wasting my time? Will a judge not see my point of view and throw this out? Does the government have the right to tell a homeowner when they can and can not go home (or go to work for that matter)? Does anyone not agree that this is fucked up? I told the officer that I know that government agencies are short on cash, but this is nonsense.

We are living in a fucking police state! With each passing day, I hate my government more and more! The city of Phoenix is becoming Orwellian. Photo radars every few blocks, cops hidden behind every bush and tree.

The look on the other drivers faces who live in the neighborhood was total disbelief.

Welcome to the new revenue source for a broke state & local government. Money grab is their only solution. I would fight this one too! Good Luck.

Definitely contest it in court; that sign in your neighborhood might not even be an actual ordinance and, thus, unenforceable.

If you don't take it to court, your crazy. Ever since 8 years ago, when that prick George W. Bush took over this country, most states and cities are trying to tell US citizens what we can do and what we cannot do. It's time we put a stop to all this bullshit. There's a difference between right and wrong, and that's wrong.:finger::finger::finger: them.

If it were me i'd drive through there at 8am everyday to piss them the f*ck off. I dont believe they're allowed to tell you that you cannot go to your house, unless there is some sort of evacuation.

Call the local newspaper and/or news station, hopefully they will do a story on this nonsense.

Ya find an Attorney friend if possible and have them deal with it. I got a ticket 100 miles from my house going 1** (and something we'll call it) and my atty made a call and it made a huge difference of what the outcome could have been.

Is all of Arizona getting rid of those cameras or just some cities?

I kinda like those. Only because I gave a friend my car to use and this ticket came in the mail from Arizona with his huge head in the window. So there was no way he was denying that one. LOL

Thanks for the input, at least I know that I am not overeacting. I don't know any attorneys in the area, will chat with some of the neighbors. The fine is not a large sum of money, but it is the principle. I thought about contacting the local news, may follow through on that.

gtc08, I don't think that person is whining about it, I think they have a valid point. What's your problem with it??? I think the law should be arresting people selling drugs, not driving thru their own neighorhood.

So basically you have no "legal" way of returning by car to your own house between 6:30-9:00 am? Pretty unreal.

Arresting people that are selling drugs is not considered a revenue generating task, therefore not part of the police agenda. Besides it is dangerous.....it is much safer to prey on the unarmed and innocent law abiding overtaxed citizens. Cop probably made his quota for the month in 3 hours, more time for doughnuts and free car washes.

And GTC, shouldn't you be trolling the political forum spewing your shit?

That's what I'm wondering. Is that the ONLY way to drive back home? There's no other route?

That is correct. I guess they would prefer that young kids walk to school with all of the predators out there. When kids start disappearing, will the cops perform their duties with the same vigilance? The reason that I drive my children to school is to make sure that they get there safe. Guess that makes me a horrible parent.

I'm no lawyer, but I'd assume people have the right to access their property at any time barring an emergency situation.

But whether it's a legit law or not... technically you did break it. Hopefully the judge will overlook that and throw it out anyway.
