I received a traffic citation this morning for returning to my house after dropping my kids off at school. There is a sign as you enter my neighborhood that states "No entry between 6:30 am and 9 am", which is there to deter people from cutting through the neighborhoods on school mornings. I figured when the cop pulled me over that he would just verify that I lived in the neighborhood and send me on my way. Nope, he said it was black and white issue, no exceptions. I explained to him that I work out of my house and was returning from dropping my kids off at school, which is the truth. There were seven cars pulled over while I was there for 15 minutes, 5 of them were residents of the neighborhood (4 were stay at home moms.) In the 2-1/2 years that I have lived in this house there has never been an officer enforcing this.
I plan on showing up at court to contest this. Am I wasting my time? Will a judge not see my point of view and throw this out? Does the government have the right to tell a homeowner when they can and can not go home (or go to work for that matter)? Does anyone not agree that this is fucked up? I told the officer that I know that government agencies are short on cash, but this is nonsense.
We are living in a fucking police state! With each passing day, I hate my government more and more! The city of Phoenix is becoming Orwellian. Photo radars every few blocks, cops hidden behind every bush and tree.
The look on the other drivers faces who live in the neighborhood was total disbelief.
