If Bud Selig was at this game today, the Spos would definitely NEVER move. He would have freaked out what he would have seen. I swear to GOD, I had tears in my eyes today.. 20,000 plus fans that sounded like 50,000... The Expos just completed a 4 game sweep of the the first place team, and also swept 4 straight from another 1st place team at home last week. There were only 5,000 seats sold before the game, and 15,000 walk ins today. I never seen so many lineups in 22 years. Usually the line ups for tickets are 6 feet long, today, 350 feet long. The Spos are now 47-23 at home, and it's even better than that because their home games in Puerto Rico weren't as successful. It's too bad they are going on the road, because I swear, we would have sold out the 4 game series this weekend against Florida, had it been here, and not in Florida. This City has gone bolistic over baseball. Fans were chanting all game, screaming, singing soccer songs. . Everytime there were 2 strikes on any batter, they'd be all on their feet. I have never seen so many brooms in my life.. There were more brooms today than there were in any Home Depot store. A fan even jumped on the field in the 8th, and was carrying a broom, and the place went crazy. He deked out the 4 fat security guards nicely, but then got caught. Frank Robinson said that Montreal fans are the loudest fans he'd ever seen in his life, and this guy's been around folks.. Boy were we loud today.. This city has not felt like this in 23 years. I felt like a kid again, i swear. It was 1981 all over again. Everywhere you go, cars are honking, every radio station is talking expos. Folks, we are in a pennant race.. I still can't believe it. Winning the world series to me would mean way more than any money at RIO I got back. I'd give it all back now to see the Spos win the W.S. before they leave town for good. Who cares about money.. Just once, I wanted to see my team win a world series before I die, and I will never get to live this, and it's a dream of mine.. Fans were chanting sweep sweep sweep sweep throughout the game, it was great. It was like old times again folks... Today was proven that Montreal is indeed a sports town. I wouldn't say a baseball town, but definitely a sports town. We just like a winner, that's it. If we win, they come out. The new slogan here now is "Believer Fever" It has become so popular here, it's not funny. I don't know which genius came up with this one, but it is so stupid. Doesn't even make any sense, but ESPN seemed to love it. Some frenchman for sure came up with this one, and it has caught on.... Folks, this city has gone wild again for baseball. The fans were singing all game and even outside after the game in the parking lots. I have seen games in fenway, yankee stadium, skydome, and I have NEVER seen anything like this. They were so vibrant. It felt like I was back in U.S. again watching a game outdoors, but even noisier.
I am so proud of my Spos folks and more, I am proud to be a Montrealer again.. The city has been hit with a bad case of baseball fever, just like the good ole days. Whoever said the good ole days can never come back, was wrong. Today proved it could..
It's still going to be very very tough to win it, but still, hope is better than no hope at all, as it's never been a sin to dream, which is what makes life so great..
Go Expos..
