Looking for some tourney ideas for players who would want to gamble a bit higher and have a fair format. My club is really small and seems to be somewhat dying, noone plays chooseups anymore, the scrambles don't fill up, which I don't play those cuz there is no money and you don't end up with people you really want to play with that much + long day. The best events of the year are the 2 man scramble, 2 man best ball(handicapped which I don't play anymore cuz its handicapped), and a special event... which is a 5 man/1 woman scramble invite only wiht a ton of good players from all over the area where the pins are on hills. My team shot 5 over one year, super fun event though where everyone gets hammered.....

So here is where the fair stuff comes in, like say the 2 man scramble which I love the event, I play it with a buddy we are both anywhere from 10-13 at times. We have about no chance to win when you have 2 sratch players on the same team so obv I'm not going to put a big sum into that event, though there is still some decent sidebetting where we can get a couple shots or whatnot.

So here is what I want to do, have 3 or 4 events next year or maybe even squeeze something in this year, but 2 formats I was thinking were

2 man sramble but your combined handicap must exceed 17

4 man scramble but your combined handicap must exceed 34 and also have to have something in there about max handicap cuz I wouldnt want 3 scratches with a 34, maybe 2 of your players must exceed a 5 handicap or something.

This isnt the best formatted post but I think you guys will get the gist ofwhat I'm talking about so if you have any ideas let me know.

I know a lot of the 3 man scrambles here are required to have a single digit handicap, a 10-19 handicap and a 20+ handicap.

These can be tricky someone like me is a 17 handicap but I 90% of the time shoot over 89 (what my handicap says) but my scores often look like:

par, par, par, bogey, quadruple bogey, birdie, triple bogey, triple bogey, par

needless to say I suck at handicap events but can scoop in a cash game and/or team format

Some clubs use a handicapping format where whey determine your handicap by blind drawing certain holes and base your handicap on those holes. That way noone knows how they do until they are done playing.

I believe it is called the Callaway Handicap, but I would google something with golfing games. I know there is a website with a bunch of them somewhere.

You can always have a calcutta.

Texas Scrambles and Shambles are the best for keeping everyone interested.

In the Texas Scramble you have 4 man teams and whoever's ball is played last sits out the next shot. After initial tee-shot, you only have 3 players scrambling the rest of the day.

In the shamble, all four players tee off and play their second shot from the best drive like a scramble but then they play their own balls into the hole. Give each player 70% of his handicap and count two balls on each hole. I get full fields every time I run one of these and I am a longtime PGA Member.

I hate this system, my club uses this once a year...my handicap is always picked on a hole I did really good on.....very unrewarding

Its not my favorite either but if you get sandbaggars in for a tournament, its a good format to have.

Chicago is always fun.
