(golf question about a driver)

I KNOW WE HAVE A LOT OF GUYS IN THE FORUM WHO PLAY GOLF AND I AM GOING TO BUY A NEW COBRA DRIVER BUT FIRST I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS.

Q1 WHEN I WATCH THE PROS HIT OFF THE TEE THE BALL STAYS IN THE AIR FOR A LONG TIME IT ALMOST LOOKS LIKE A DEEP FLY BALL BUT IT ENDS UP 300 YARDS.I KNOW MOST OF THEM USE A LESS LOFTED DRIVER 7.5 OR 8.5. WHAT SHOULD A 7 HANDICAPPER LIKE MYSELF USE FOR LOFT?

I HAVE PLAYED WITH A KING COBRA 9 DEGREE DRIVER I HIT THE BALL FAILY HIGH BUT MORE OF A LINE DRIVE.I WAS THINKING WHEN I BUY THIS NEW DRIVER IF I SHOULD GET ONE WITH 10.5 OF LOFT INSTEAD FIGURING THE EXTRA HEIGHT WILL GET ME EXTRA YARDS.

Q2 DO YOU LOOSE CONTROL IF YOU HIT THE BALL HIGH WITH A 10.5 DRIVER I HEARD THE BALL SPINS MORE OFF THE CLUBFACE THE HIGHER THE LOFT IS.I DONT WANT TO GIVE UP CONTROL FOR HEIGHT I AM PRETTY STRAIGHT OFF THE TEE.

NOW THE SHAFT I USE A FUJIKURA 26.3 PLATFORM SHAFT IN MY COBRA DRIVER THIS IS A GOOD FIT I HIT THE BALL WELL OFF THE TEE BUT LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE I AM LOOKING FOR A FEW EXTRA YARDS.THE SHAFT I HAVE HAS A LOW TOURQE I WILL CHECK THE SPELLING LATER BUT WITH THIS LOW TOURQE THE BALL GOES HIGHER.

IF I BUY A DRIVER WITH 10.5 LOFT WILL I STILL NEED A SHAFT WITH THE LOW TOURQE OR SHOULD I RELY ON THE LOFT 10.5 TO MAKE THE BALL GO HIGHER.

Sounds like you have it figured out.

See if the have one you can take to the range for a test drive (pun intended). If they dont find someone who will.

A 10.5 degree driver will give you more trajectory and MORE accuracy, theoretically. If your drives tend to die once they hit the ground, perhaps a 10.5 degree will be better for you.

on the otherhand, if you play where there's lots of wind, a 7,8, or 9 degree driver will be better as there's less trajectory, and a LOT more spin or roll. But, they are tougher to hit.

WHALE THANKS FOR ASKING I LOVE MY IRONS.BEN HOGAN APEX EDGE THE ONES THAT CAME OUT ABOUT 5 OR 6 YEARS AGO THEY ARE VERY FORGIVING FOR A FORGED IRON.I COULDNT HIT THEM FOR SHIT THEN I HAD LITEWEIGHT STIFF METAL SHAFTS PUT IN TO MAKE THE IRIONS GO HIGHER AND BELIEVE ME IT SAVED MY GAME.

DYNALITE GOLD LITEWEIGHT SHAFTS (SL) BEST SHAFTS IN GOLF IF YOU WANT TO HIT YOUR LONG IRONS HIGHER YOU HAVE TO GET THESE SHAFTS.

FOR MY DRIVER I MIGHT GET A 10 1/2 LOFT WITH A HEAVIER SHAFT WITH A MED KICK POINT RATHER THAN A LOW KICK POINT AND A 9 DEGREE LOFT.

IT SUCKS BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO GO TALK TO A LOCAL GOLF PRO THOSE F-CKING GUYS ARE ALWAYS TRYING TO SELL YOU LESSONS.I CANT TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GOLF PRO AND A USED CAR SALESMAN THEY ARE BOTH TRYING TO F-CK YOU hno:

loft means nothing in the driver, its all the shaft that makes the ball trajectory. the higher the kickpoint in the driver, the lower the ball flight is going to be and the lower the kickpoint, the easier it is to hit the ball and make it go higher. loft is more of a directional thing. if you tend to hit it right all the time, we recommend something with a little let loft to get through the club.

i didn't believe that loft didn't matter but after working in a golf store for 5 years, you can swap shafts and make the club perform completely different. only thing that i can recommend is getting fit for your driver and getting on a launch monitor and have someone who knows what they are doing help you out.

Good advice above.

BTJ the spin on the ball will increase with a higher loft on the driver but it's the backspin that increases not the sidespin. The sidespin will decrease.

Higher lofts in general are more accurate. A lot of golfers make the mistake of using a driver with a loft that is too low. But if you're a 7 with a good swing speed I'd test out some diff lofts and shaft options. As cjv said, the kick-point of a shaft is just as important as the loft of the head.

If possible try to get fitted using something that can measure your swing speed and launch angle.

And I agree with cjv, the G10 is awesome.

i am going with the 9.5 i gave my stats to a salesman at edwin watts golf and he said he would talk to one of the represenatives from cobra to match the shaft.you guys are right its all in having the right shaft.

we have 20 inches of snow on the ground right now but i want to get this driver before the golf season starts.its a custom order 47 inch long driver.
