I'm looking for Brazil to win against Mx. Not sure about the total - maybe 2-1 - but definitely Brazil.

In the consolation - US over CR.

I ve been told that due to a weird rule, Brasil is not allowed to win this Cup,since they ve been invited to play at it,so if Brasil wins,we ll c one more match:

winner of US-CR v Mexico

can anyone confirm the above?

That has got to be the stupidest thing I ever heard. Why would you bother playing if you didnt have a chance to win it. Winner tomorrow is the Gold Cup Champion, simple as that. Its not the most important tourney out there so it doesnt matter if a non-CONCACAF team wins.

Look for me in horrible seats, I will actually be at the game. I think Brazil wins just because they are playing with a total mission here. It was a smart move I think sending the U-23 team, if it was the vets they wouldnt care much, after all who cares about winning someone elses tournament. This team cares, they are out to prove their worth and some are looking for spots on the real team since it has to qualify this time around. Mexico lost Rafa Marquez, their real stopper on the flank, where the Brazil speed eventually wore down the US and created almost all the chances. A real big loss just for the tactical edge because Mexico didnt pack much defense on this team after the first couple spots. Sanchez hasnt faced hardly any heat in this tournament, this finally will be a game he gets tested. I see it 2-0 because Mexico still hasnt convinced me of their striking ability if facing a credible foe.

i dont know what pills you are taking bill, but in a short while you turned from a poster i liked and admired to a very offending and negative one. It's vg's opionion ok, "the stupidest thing I ever heard" hardly, try talking to yourself, it's not nice to offend people you know, let alone in a sport where you are at best, and i mean at the very best, a novice. You are no authority here, and even if you where one i dont like it that you insult people such as vg, who is mind you one of the best soccer cappers in here.

Yes the rule is stupid, but I didnt make the rules

Copy from the official site:

"However, regulations for the tournament have always stated that an invited team, in this case Brazil, can not be official champions and thus: the USA still have a chance of winning within the following scenarios:
1) Mexico will be champions if they defeat Brazil
2) Mexico will be champions if they lose to Brazil AND if Costa Rica defeats the USA Saturday's third-place game at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida at 20:00
3) However --- if Mexico loses to Brazil and the USA defeats Costa Rica, then a play-off would be needed between Mexico and the USA, at a date to be determined, in order to produce a champion"

You guys have it wrong. If brazil had beat mexico there would have been a one game playoff between the U.S. and mexico for a 2005 confederations cup birth. Hope this helps.

In the Mexican newspaper yesterday they quoted a CONCACAF official and he said Brazil would get the Gold Cup if they win. The confusion was all completely misplaced, that the Confed Cup berth was all that was at stake and that playoff probably wouldn't take place until 2004, but the Gold Cup trophy would go to the winner on the field of the final.

As for why its played in the US or Mexico every time is just because that is where they get the fans. This official said they were unsure if they would extend the bid to have games in Mexico again just due to travel issues and the fact that almost no one showed up for games outside of their Brazil matches, which would draw huge crowds even if they were just friendlies. The US usually hosts it because imagine what the crowds would be like in say CR if they had a Canada/Cuba match? The US is the only place that has enough diversity of different fans (and money) to support such an event. This official did mention that there was a possibility of adding another regional level (essentially the first 3 games) in a local venue and then having the quarterfinals and beyond in one or two locations.

They continually host football tournaments in the US to try to get the country excited about the sport and some of the reasons stated above.
I personally think that the only thing that will ever get mainstream Americans excited about the sport is if in the same year, NBA, NFL and MLB went all on strike, the US won the men's WC and Mia Hamm agreed to appear nude in Playboy magazine.

Why do Europeans constantly say things like this? They don't do it for to promote the game. If they wanted American interests they would put it on ESPN or a major network, not just the Spanish language networks. They play the games in the US for two simple reasons. One is that every country represented has its citizens living in this country, many of them who would be happy to spend good money given the chance to support the team. I went to the Jamaica game in Mexico and I saw maybe 5 Jamaica supporters out of 20,000 people. That isn't a problem you see if in the US. Second is this country is where the money is. Mexico games got little support except for the Brazil matches because few people can or are willing to pay $15 for cheap seats to a match. That price doesn't stop people in the US from going to a match. The tournaments are run with a goal of making some money and serving the purpose of giving CONCACAF an identity. They certainly have no interest or even worry about if the US cares about the sport or not. Only foreigners care so much about how much attention Americans pay to the sport. Who really cares how much the average person watches, after all its entertainment and if the rest of the world finds the game more entertaining than the US that is no one's fault or concern.
