i am staying at the flamingo. i am interested in playing texas hold 'em. probably will want to play limit and no-limit games. where is the best place? also, i have heard nightmare stories about waiting like three hours to get on a table...i'd like to avoid that if possible. i'll go somewhere off the beaten path if i can get into a game right away.

thanks.

Since your staying at the Flamingo........would suggest the Mirage.

Two others I would recommend would be THE ORLEANS(on Tropicana one mile west of strip) and the GOLDEN NUGGET(downtown area).

Although somewhat smokey and off the beaten path........you will not find a friendlier low limit cardroom than SAMS TOWN.

They also have some of the very best small tournaments around anywhere.

Located on Boulder Highway.

mandalay bay is a nice spot. any idea if i will be waiting all day to get in a game there?

also, when you play no-limit in vegas, how do they do it? is it a set number of guys with a set buy-in amount....play til the last man is standing? that is what i am used to. if vegas does no-limit with re-buys and that sort of thing, i will probably stick to limit. i do not have an unlimited bankroll.

Blue your no-limit question needs a few qualifiers. Are you interested in a ring game or tournament?

Vegas has tournaments for all types of players, rebuy tourneys, freezeout (one buy-in and play until someone wins it all), and other variations.

Card player has a listing of all the tournaments. Do a search there and you can find what you seek. Each casino offers a different structure and buy-in amount so you should find a game that suits you.

For ring games, the NL structure generally is that you buy-in for anything in between a minimum and a maximum amount. Folks can always rebuy if they bust out.

On my most recent trip I played at Imperial Palace its a good room:

1.. Its convenient to the Flamingo
2. Rx poster works there- so like to support his place
3. Good low limit
4. Good weekday tournament offerings.

I love the Nugget and if you want to make money go to the Luxor- great easy tourist game- not a great room.

The tournaments used to be held on Saturday nights..........you should arrive by 6pm

SAMS TOWN is worth the trip just to see their atruim lobby......take the glass elevator to the top for a great view.

BILLY BOBS STEAKHOUSE and the ITALIAN restaurant there are two nice places I recommend to eat.

Whatever you do, dont go to Binion's Blue......

Fish, and General, and Dante and I walked over there one day, figuring to be impressed at the casino that houses the "World Series of Poker", and what we found looked like a dark dungeon, that smelled like piss.........no joke

Very dissappointed.....

Golden Nugget is the Cream of the downtown crop, by far......

The only way to get that is in a freezeout tournament. No rebuys, no add-ons.

FYI, a ring game is one where people come and go at their leisure and can buy in for varying amounts.

Blue,
drop me a line if you care to visit the IP. We have several tournaments throughout the week with low buy-ins, 40 to 50 $, and one re-buy. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have.:aktion033

Blue- I met the Green Doberman last month when I was in Vegas. He's a good guy, and you should definitely have a pepsi with him if you get the chance.

Livest game around if you like low buy-in NL live game is at the Excalibur. $100 buy-in, $1/2 blinds and a boatload of action. Not uncommon to walk up and see five or six players with many hundreds in chips in front of them with all the action going on. Some of the other NL games around town have players that double or triple up and get the hell out. Friends of mine are more regular there and rave constantly about the game. I played there once and this should tell you something. I had AA, got in a small raise before the flop and then got it all in after a flop of J-10-5. Another guy who played bad but got lucky and had about $400 in chips called me with 33. On another hand maybe 10 minutes later I bet $80 with a big flush. Some other dope called me with his AK with no flush draw. River came an A, not suited to the flush. He comes out betting, goes all-in. Real geniuses playing that game...
