AAA SPORTS
NCAAF: Memphis Tigers at Bowling Green Falcons - Memphis +3 -110
Game Date: 12/22/2004
Note: Motivation is the key tonight. Who in the hell wants to play their bowl game in rainy, windy, cold weather? I thought that a Bowl game was meant to be a reward for good play. Not punishment!! Forecast calls for rain and lot's of wind. Wind gusts up to 30 mph!! MEMPHIS WANTS TO PLAY THIS GAME!!! Tommy West just got an extention to his contract and the Tigers have a chance at a Top 25 finish and 9 wins. This game is huge! Bowling Green is lucky to be anywhere and are somewhat letdown from not playing in the Motor City Bowl. The weather tonight plays right into the Tigers hands. D'Angelo Williams might be the best running back in the country and has superior balance. This field tonight will be to his liking. Memphis with much more balanced offense attack. The Falcons rely almost totally on the work of QB Omar Jacobs who threw an incredible 36 TD's this year. One must be able to run the ball tonight to win. Here are a couple of interesting facts. Memphis is 11-1 ATS against teams that average more than 425 yards per game. Bowling Green is 1-6 in the same scenerio. Bowling Green is a dismal 3-10 ATS against teams with a winning record!!! Say what!!! Tigers Big Tonight!

Tigers game plan helping to lower total

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=smtext2 width="100%" colSpan=2></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Sportsbooks barely have time to post an over/under number for tonight’s GMAC Bowl before they have to tear it down and post a lower one.

The opening line is falling like a stone in a puddle after opening at a lofty number of between 70 and 72 for tonight’s contest between offensive juggernauts Memphis and Bowling Green.

The dropped to around 68 by early Tuesday evening and plummeted further to 65 ½ by Wednesday afternoon at several online sportsbooks. A rainy forecast is one reason for the dramatic dip, but even a sloshy field doesn’t usually shove the line this much. <LINK type=text/css rel=stylesheet src="/STYLES/base.css"><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=220 align=right border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=gradblue></TD></TR><TR><TD><TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=0 width="100%" bgColor=#999999 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 width="100%" bgColor=#999999 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=smtext2 vAlign=top bgColor=#ffffff height=19></TD></TR><TR><TD class=smtext2 vAlign=top bgColor=#ffffff height=19></TD></TR><TR><TD class=smtext2 vAlign=top bgColor=#ffffff height=19></TD></TR><TR><TD class=smtext2 vAlign=top bgColor=#ffffff height=19></TD></TR><TR><TD class=smtext2 vAlign=top bgColor=#ffffff height=19></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD><TR></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

”I think the reason that the total has come down is that Memphis plans to try and keep the usually potent MAC-style offense of Bowling Green off the field,” says Michael Pierce, senior linesmaker at betWWTS.com

“Who can blame the Tigers considering they have one of the top running backs in the country in DeAngelo Williams?"

Bowling Green generates over 500 yards and 43 points of offense per game; the Tigers own a porous defensive unit that surrenders over 400 yards and nearly 30 points per game.

If the Tigers are smart, they’ll allow their lethal tailback Williams to grind down the clock on the way to the end zone to prevent a mismatch situation on defense.

Williams led the nation with 21 rushing touchdowns this season and he ranked third in rushing yards with 1,828 in 11 games.

Bowling Green allows 136.3 rushing yards per game. Oddsmakers have Memphis slated as a 3-point underdog after opening the Tigers at +4 1/2.

Memphis +4.5 vs. Bowling Green: This is what it’s all about! The Hopes and Dreams of a student athlete – four years of blood, sweat, tears, victory, defeat, dedication, pride. Sometimes it hurts, but it’s all worthwhile, when your Pain and Sacrifices for ‘ole State U culminate in a…. holiday trip to Mobile??!! Oh well, at least the student athlete gets a lot of tail… Anyway, once again the Mobile Bowl features high-octane offenses going at it. The (atlanta) Falcons feature an awesome inexperienced quarterback, and the Tiggers might have the nation’s best tailback in DeAngelo Williams. I’ll call for the lethal combo of Wimprine and Williams to lead Mempiss to the SU victory. The beauty of all of this is that Disgusting Fat Body Albert Means will be out of everyone’s life forever after this game.
