Illinois +8
I was surprised to see this line so high. Conference play is just beginning in the Big Ten and Purdue is rolling into this game on a very nice streak. After back to back losses to Oklahoma and Duke the Boilermakers have steam rolled everyone they have played. Sure, those teams were mostly scrubs but they did beat Davidson and that is a solid win. However, 8 points in a Big Ten game is just too delicious for me to pass up. This Illinois team covered 8 points 3 times last year vs Purdue once with an outright win in the Big Ten tournament.

Illinois has really impressed me this year because coming in I saw this as a rebuilding year for the program. However, they have put good efforts in @ Vandy, vs Kent St, vs Clemson, vs Georgia, and vs Missouri winning all those games except the two point loss to Clemson. They have proved to be a very good TEAM. They don't have the players that Purdue has but everything they do is a team effort. They get 12 ppg from 4 different players and everyone pitches in on the glass. They also all make the extra pass leading to a ton of assists and a ton of open looks.

I don't think Illinois gets the win but I do think they keep it close for the whole game and stay within the big number. 8 points is tough to lay in a Big Ten conference game.

Clemson -2.5
South Carolina hosts Clemson in the Gamecocks first test of the season. Clemson appears ready to make some noise in the ACC again this year and proved it to me several times this year with wins over Illinois, Temple, TCU, and Miami. Also, the Miami and Illinois wins both came on the road which is very impressive. It appears that the Clemson pressure defense will be just fine again this year and still bring havoc to all thier opponents. I really don't feel like South Carolina will be able to handle the pressure defense and keep up with Clemsons speed.

I think Clemson can cover the small number fairly easily and I am very confident in this play even if it is in South Carolina.

Butler -5
People seem to forget just how good this Butler program really is. Butler has again opened the season very strong with thier lone loss being against Ohio State in a close game that they covered the number. They also added a win vs Xavier last time out and now turn thier focuses to UAB.

UAB just isn't the same team that pushed Memphis to the limit last year and seem to be just your average Conference USA team. They have dissapointed me in thier games vs Louisville, Boston College, South Florida, and Oklahoma. UAB is not to impressive after thier big three combination of Vaden, Delaney, and Kinnard.

I think a defense with the experience of Butler will be able to contain the three scorers and try to force them to look for other sources of scoring. I think that Butler will get the job done.

Oklahoma -5.5
I am going with the square play here. I am going to be playing Oklahoma on the road against Arkansas to win by 6 points. Oklahoma has had as tough a schedule as any team in the country and have come out of it unblemished. Arkansas has used a weak schedule to trot to a one loss record with no true tests to date. Oklahoma appears to be final four material. They have the best NBA prospect in the country in Blake Griffin. The kid rebounds as well as anyone I have ever seen in any league. He always gets the ball at its highest point and will get physical with you down low if you wish. Griffin can also score the ball and has nice touch for a guy of his size and playing style. You have to double team this guy and when you do you set up the rest of the Oklahoma squad to hit an open shot which they have done all year.

Arkansas is going to have to double team Griffin because they have no one on the team that can guard him. Their tallest player is 6-9 and thier heaviest player is 239 pounds. Given that Griffin is 6-10, 251 pounds I would say Arkansas is in for a battle.

I think Oklahoma and Blake Griffin are too much in this one.

These all seem like easy picks. Let's roll man.

Yes, very confident tonight. Not to scared to bet a few road teams mainly because it is winter break which usually means a large amount of students won't be around for the game.

USC and Clemson should have a big crowd... It's a rivalry game and many alums should be at the game... and Clemson is ranked in the top 25, while South Carolina is moving along with only 1 loss all year. If Clemson can't control Devan Downey then South Carolina will win tonight. I think USC and Clemson matchup pretty well against one another so it's all going to come down to who wants it more.

Yes, I figure all the locals will be thier but alumni won't give you the homecourt advantage that a packed student section will. Clemson is a very good team this year and I just don't think this is the type of game they will lose. They know how hard So. Car will play and definitley won't take them lightly. Should be some Clemson fans in attendance as well and they won't have to travel far for this one.

I think Clemson will get it done with the press.
