Let me preface this by saying, I hate the University of Florida more than anyone on this board. Having lived in Florida and being an OSU, fan you can probably understand why I hate Florida. They have the arrogance of Notre Dame with about 15 years of tradition.'
Enough about my hatred of them, but the reality is, even at 2 to 1, Florida is a great bet to win the MNC. There is not a team in America that will compete with Florida with the exception of Alabama.
Sorry, but if you think Texas and is going to move the ball on Florida you are sadly mistaken. Unfortunately, one my comebacks against UF fans has always been, when was the last time you went undefeated, well that answer is 2009. This team is deep and talented in all 3 phases of the game.
Let's look at the top contenders (this is not based on rankings, but rather teams that could emerge from their conference)
Pac 1 (maybe 2 this year)
USC- Honestly, USC is not even close to the USC teams of the past few years. A semi efficent offense would have beaten USC by 2 TDs on Saturday. They will lose at CAL.
Cal- Can they manage to not lose 6 after Oct 1. That remains to be seen, but they have a clear shot a running the table in the Pac 10. However, while they have ablility to beat USC, they are not in the class of Florida.
Big 12
Oklahoma- Thank you for stopping by, but without JG and Bradford up in the air, you have no shot.
Okie Lite- You proved once again, you are pretender and not a contender
Texas- While many Texas fans want to complain about being left out of the MNC game last year, you weren't beating Florida, you barely beat a pathetic Ohio State team. Texas is good and has legit shot to run the table, but they will not be within 10 points of Florida.
ACC- Va Tech, Miami (not going to happen, but just incase)
Neither team plays strong enough D to stop Florida and Va Tech has no idea what offense is, as Beamer appears to be from the Jim Tressel offensive school. Miami, Harris looks great, but they don't have nearly enough pieces.
Big East- Cincy
Nice story, but not a MNC team.
Big 10- Penn State
While Penn State may go undefeated, they have yet to face any team with a pulse and they won't face an offense with a pulse until the Michigan game and that is the best offense they will face all year. They don't have the horses to keep up with Florida.
SEC- Alabama
Alabama has the best chance to knock of Florida. They have the defensive talent and coaching, but do they have enough on offense to score 24-27. That is what it will take even with a defense like theirs to beat Florida.
Ole Miss- Solid, but I don't think UF sleeps if they play them in ATL.
Florida is not as talented as Miami 2001, USC 2004, Texas 2005 (Yes, they had more talent than most realize, look at their secondary 3 1st round picks).
However, Florida is like Nebraska 1995. Great coaching based on the talent they have and the staff understands how to maximize and play to the strengths of the players. Also, Florida could even lose Tebow and still win it all with John Brantley. They are deep and they run an offense that excutes like Carolina hoops, nearly flawless.
2 to 1 may not seem like great odds, but no team has been this much of a lock to win a title since Miami 2001. Also, just like 2001, there aren't many great teams in CFB this year.
