I'd like to get this forums thoughts on Georgia as the number one team this season.

Typically, I'm one of those bettors who fades the public consensus. Everywhere I read, whether it's SI, or any of the other College Football publications they all have the Dogs as undeniably the number one team.

Do y'all think this is a good sign for Georgia fans?

No. I would much rather be under the radar. We seem to play much better in that role.

The only real comparison under Richt is the 2004 season where UGA opened the preseason ranked #3 and #4 in the USA Today and AP polls.

They had a good season going 10-2, but I think that they underachieved.

The schedule is brutal as everyone knows, and I would be happy to finish 10-2 regular season.

I'm a Gator fan and grew up hating Georgia. However, I can respect a good football team....and UGA is very good. They are loaded with talent and really don't have a true weakness (they need a new kicker and are young at a few spots, if you want to call that a weakness). UGA finished the year strong, basically kicking every teams ass that they played. They finished 2nd in the AP poll. They won big in their BCS bowl game. They return almost their entire starting lineup (I believe the return 17 or 18 starters). So, to answer your question, I don't think UGA is over-rated one bit. I think they are one of the pre-season top 3 or 4 teams....and they've earned it.

As far as their season goes. Who knows? It's college football. It's the SEC. They have a very brutal schedule. They go to Arizona State, travel to LSU and they play Florida and Auburn. Also, they travel to South Carolina, who I think is going to be much better than people think. Tennessee will be solid this year as well. So, getting through that schedule will be tough. I'm not sure they'll come out of that schedule undefeated. But if they lose one game they could still play for it all.

As far as betting on UGA? I think they'll put up a lot of points and they have a great defense. So, they could be a team to follow. Any low spreads against soft teams (Kentucky or Vandy?) may be worth looking at.....

Stafford is good for a couple of picks in big games. Georgia has to go on the road this year. There is no way in hell they make it through all that this year.

I don't know if they're overrated, but I'm on the under 9.5 wins this year. A very tough schedule mixed with a lot of pressure will make it difficult to reach 10 wins. I think 9-3 is a very respectable record with the schedule they have.

Is Stafford a senior this year? If not it will interesting to see if he sticks around depending on how the team does since he's pretty much a lock for the first overall pick next year.

Stafford is a junior this year. I agree that I don't think that UGA is overrated.

Word out of camp is that the kicking game is no where near the level that it has been the past few years. Blair Walsh (true freshman) has a cannon, but is very irratic. The injuries continue to be a concern at WR, and Caleb King is the #2 RB regardless of the talk that he is battling for it.

I dont necessarily agree that because UGA is on the road more this year than last makes that much of a difference. Richt is 25-4 on the road as the HC at UGA. I think that the slate of teams is the bigger concern (regardless of whether they were playing home or away).

Good points Furman, I can tell you're a true Dogs fan. This schedule they have this season one of the toughest I have ever seen. If they can get through with one loss, they should meet the winner of OSU-USC on Sept. 15.
