It's too bad that you need to lay $5000 to win lunch for 2 if you want to win a wager when he fights. One of these days he'll show up to fight with the stomach flu or an equally pukey parasite and the rest of the story is destined to become legend. He reminds me of Mike Tyson when he used to hit hard but I think he's just a Middleweight, (maybe Welterweight?) 34 years old and he fights like he is 24 but looks like he's 40. Didn't he get put on the same card as Bernard Hopkins (49) recently? I bet he's broken a few of his opponent's bones with just a punch. He's probably the strongest boxer I've ever seen (at least pound for pound.) He often knocks out his opponents with body shots.

Typical Ruskie madman the way he hits. I've often wondered what that's all about. It's hard to describe.
What is it about some of those Ruskies that allows them to smoke their opponents by the way they fight?
You know the type I'm talking about. (opinions welcome right about here.)

I'd love to see Manny Pacquiao take him on, and
then Floyd Mayweather which will never happen.

GGG is with HBO and Hopkins has been on Showtime the past few years until this upcoming fight vs Kovalev

Giant GGG fan here and been that way since Nunez fight in 2010. Scariest fighter in boxing.

I was ringside Sat night and took a great pic with Ruslan P, aka Siberian Rocky.

Between Ruslan, Kovalev and GGG, HBO has a crazy-good Russian trifecta who will take on anyone and have massive power.

Before this fight, you could have bet GGG under 10/1 on his prior fights. Maybe 11/1 vs Geale.

Scenario from #boxing guy today: GGG vs. Canelo, Mexican Independence Day weekend (Sept) 2015 at Cowboys Stadium. 50k fans, 1.5M PPV buys.

Quote from @OscarDeLaHoya to me on the phone a little while ago: “I have no doubt that Canelo will fight GGG."

That would be great match up
i really hope kovalev can take Hopkins. Hope he doesn't get destroyed like pavlik did. at least kovalev is an actual light heavy and not moving up.

almost 16k views? do you have a life?

Sometimes RX threads get listed under Google search results. Guessing this one got listed high for some search involving Golovkin. Happens every so often. There was some random thread in the hockey forum a few weeks back that was getting similar views because it was #1 on Google for something related to "Hockey Night".

Maybe I'm just lucky. I have been posting here almost exclusively for longer than many poster's kids have been alive. However in this case I believe that Golovkin is beginning to go viral and there just isn't enough on the web to read up about him. The other "factor" behind all the traffic generated is this kind of thing, and what I mean by that is the creation of a new and much higher class of fighter who is far more dangerous than what came before.

I relate to what he can do athletically in my own way from back in the day when I played baseball. I had a ton of confidence in hitting that "sweet spot" as a batter knowing full well that I was about to smack that "little pill" 500 ft through the air before it returned to earth. And I would do it often...almost as often as I wanted to do it until I blew out my left knee. The spikes in my left shoe held the ground a little too well. The right fielder said it sounded like someone crunched a bag of potato chips.

Now multiply my talent or my ability to focus all of my strength, especially my lower body strength (but the rest of my body too) and hand or arm speed by about 100 x with enough variations to hit from numerous angles like a boxer with Golovkin's skill level and coordination and you've got something entirely new. From my own personal experience (and I doubt that I'm alone with that) I can get a general idea about what he does but I have no idea how he does it. His coordination and his timing is unreal and I think it comes naturally to him.

I have heard it said that he has a natural ability to balance his center of gravity in just the right way so he winds up leaning ever so slightly into his target (I think) which puts his entire body at an advantage over his opponent as if everyone he fights is standing slightly back on his heels compared to how Golovkin's body position is oriented.

Well, for what it's worth, that's about all I can say which explains at least a small part of it. I also think there's some sort of attitude involved with all of that too. But truthfully, I can't help catching myself sitting there just waiting to see what his next combination of left hooks to the body (plus whatever else he throws) then expecting to see his opponent crumble to the canvas.

Surprised the f*ck out of me. I just read up on this thread ½ hr. ago which makes it news to me. I rarely post anywhere but in CFB for some years because it's been what I consider the only true sport played for its own sake like no other. Boxing and MMA run a respectable second place. And over the years, I dare say that I have become pretty good at mostly posting winning sides in CFB (65% to 70% season after season -- all documented here at the Rx) when I have had time to do my homework. But this boxing attention is all to new for me to understand.
