Don't give away your old dress uniforms or put them up on EBay!!! I saw some little piece of sh*t band boy on the Grammys red carpet being interviewed in a USMC dress blue uniform blouse (yes boys thats what we call it in the Marines). Pissed me off! Cammies are one thing...anybody can wear that around as it has a civilian use (hunting etc..) but a military dress uniform should not be turned into a prop for these little bastards who don't rate to wear it. I am glad I have saved mine. I didn't catch the name of the band or the kid wearing it. When I was on active duty I saw a woman in the airport wearing the same thing like it was a dinner jacket or something...I told her that was a military dress uniform and she should not be wearing it. Some people are just uneducated about the level of respect that those uniforms should be given, like many things in our culture it. For God's sake our boys are coming home and being buried in those uniforms and they earned the right to wear it.

Absolutely agree, that pisses me off no end when I see any US military unifrom worn in the fashion you mention. I know there is not a lot we can do about it except to keep our own in safe keeping. I have mine although it doesn't come close to fitting these days.

Why would cammies be different then?

Camouflage or cammies are fairly generic all purpose apparel and do not carry the significance or historical meaning of a full dress uniform.

Exceptionally offensive. I once ran into a woman who was wearing a US Navy officer's coat like a yachting blazer and told her that I--along with others--had worn that uniform proudly and didn't appreciate her flaunting in public. She looked at me like I was from out of space.

Some people don't get it.

You guys are nailing it right on the head, it's just ignorance. I'm sure no one wearing dress uniforms is intending any disrespect, they just think it's "cool" and don't realize the significance and symbolism of the uniforms.

It's the classic free-country irony: You guys fought for the right for these people to wear whetever the heck they want to, and they neither recognize nor appreciate the sanctity of the garments. Don't take it personally. Half of the population is below average, and it is next to impossible to reach all of them.

I am not a vet, but I respect the hell out of all of you guys who have served in the armed forces to protect our country.

All those rules (and there are many) regarding respect for the uniform as well as the flag are way out of date. For example, a flag should never be incorporated into clothing in any way other than a lapel pin. I don't see anything wrong with military uniforms being in fashion; that's how the younger generation shows respect; by imitation. It's certainly better than the general attitude toward the military a generation ago.

Nothing wrong with wearing a military dress uniform. Its not just for all the losers who cant find no job and enlist. Anybody who enlists in the military deserves what they get.

When was the last time you saw just anyone dressed in the uniform of the British Household Cavalry or the Guards? Just says something about the difference between European and N. American culture.

We Canadians are no better, the damn Mounties sold the commercial rights to their dress uniform to Disney for making dolls etc.

Sorry General. I just get tired of people in the military acting like heroes. The guy said EARNED the right to wear the uniform. Well if you got drafted you may have earned it. But if you enlist, it is your JOB. You get paid to do a job. Thats like a football player saying he earned the right to wear his jersey and nobody who didnt play football should wear one. Thats stupid. If you enlist it is your job. Doesnt make you a hero. You dont earn nothing. If you enlist it is your job to put your life on the line for this country. You get paid for that. Then when people get killed in active duty their famalies want me to feel sorry for them. Not a chance. Stupid enough to enlist. Thats their problem.

When you ENLIST, you do not have a job. YOU HAVE TO EARN THAT JOB SIR. Many do not have the courage to even try and earn that job, let alone wear its uniform.

Okay, A.R., so according to your logic, teachers, priests, missionaries, astronauts, etc. should not be respected for their accomplishments because they "chose" to go into their chosen professions and weren't drafted or forced to do so?

People in the military do not earn our respect simply by enlisting, not any more than teachers, doctors, lawyers, etc. earn our respect by choosing to go into their professions. They all earn our respect by virtue of what they accomplish in their professions, i.e. living by a code of ethics/honor, sticking up for the weak, defending the innocent, prosecuting the guilty, striving for higher ideals, and just showing up for work another day when they don't feel like it.

Those in the military have passed rigorous physical, mental and emotional challenges and live their lives by a code of ethics. Some fail the physical examination or training. Some fail in the mental and emotional aspects. Some fail to conduct themselves honorably. If they do not, they are dishonorably discharged, and they forfeit their privilege of wearing the uniform.

I will be the first to admit that, although the military has more than their share of intellectuals, strategists, and outstanding individuals, they get their share of mental and physical "slackers," too. But the slackers don't last long until they can get into mental & physical shape and conduct themselves accordingly. Then, they have earned the right to wear the uniform. They may "choose" their lifestyle and commitment to the military, but that makes it no less honorable that they are able and willing to follow through with their choice.

I hope you're just trying to get a rise out of us and you don't really have such contempt for the members of our armed forces. If you spend any time at all around our soldiers in the right atmosphere, i.e., not at the titty bars, you will likely change your tune.

General

who in their right mind would enlist in todays military ? a lot of people enlisted today did it out of need, did out for an education.

It's day and night in the military now adays compared to yesteryear

If I was in the military right now, I wouldnt act like a hero, and I definetely wouldnt try to pretend that Im protecting my country when Im over in Iraq fighting for the elitists interests.
