I am hosting a Derby party for 20 or so people tomorrow. Any ideas for social betting?

I figure I can put the horses in a hat and have each person pay $5 and draw for the pot, win/place/show, but I would like some more games.

Lay it on me.

Honestly, I use to attend Derby parties in the past (same party each year)..... The only that comes to mind, is exactly which you mentioned. We would draw numbers from a hat, and only paid out the winner.....I believe we did even what you said, $5 each......Don't forget the mint juleps!!

PS.....I like Dunkirk tomorrow

I make an exacta board. Unfortunately when there are 20 horses you have to make 380 boxes (20 times 19). $2 per exacta and you put your initials in the boxes you want to bet. The way you construct the board is you write each number across the top. Then you write each number down the left side. You make a grid. The win horse is on the top and the place horse is on the left side. Make sure you put an "X" in the boxes that you can't bet (1-1, 2-2, 3-3, etc.). For the Belmont I make a trifecta box since there are less horses. We usually get over $1000 in our pool.

Have a horse face contest with the women. Have all the horses pictures and let the guys pick which wife or gf looks like each one.

Well for an even square like football, with no real bias you can have a final time 10 X 10 square, using the hundreths of the final time. XX:XX:00-XX:XX:99.

Another fairly even 10 x 10 Square is to draw is to draw 2 horses to pair them randomly and then take average finish of 2, lowest can get 1/2, highest can get 1/2 or any split of pot.
