its kinda sad really. i used to watch baseball games, rooting for my team and following the players i liked. same with football and basketball too. now, if i don't have action, i don't even care who wins...let alone watch anything.

don't get me wrong, gambling has been pretty good to the wallet the last three years. but, it feels...i don't know...impure or something. i don't feel like a fan anymore.

can anyone else relate?

I can relate. However with me I make it a rule to rarely bet on my favorite teams.

I don't want my heart to affect my betting and it lets me root for them as I normally would.

successful gambler and FAN, are like Oil and Water. Good timing, last night was a perfect example, I am hokie, Last night i bet on UVA against them. 10 years ago I would have been happy as hell Tech beat them(even if I had bet on UVA), but I was actually disappointed after the outcome last night.

Bottom line is NEVER bet with your heart. Only your head, lol. You can be a fan and a gambler just NEVER bet on or against your favorite team no matter how good or enticing it is to you.

free agency runied sports for me. too many players moving around.

made me a fan of players more than a fan of certain teams.

gambling has helped ease the pain of it all..

I notice the same for the major sports, but for some reason I can enjoy snooker and tennis on Eurosport for hours without any action on it.

the bulls are playing their best baseketball since jordan hit that jumper with 6 seconds left in utah 7 years ago and i don't care. sad. this team is exciting too...lot of young players. all i cared about last night was the total score over 187.

I hear ya, Blue. I didn't bet on the national title game this year, and said I was going to watch it like a fan, like I did exclusively until 3 years ago. Midway through the first quarter, I could tell that I had no interest in the game, and didn't care who won. It changes you, and the way you look at sports. It's a trade-off. However, I will always be a big Illini fan, and am enjoying this year like no other. You can jump on the Illini bandwagon, we won't mind. It does kind of seem impure at times, but I guess if you're going to watch games all day, you might as well look for opportunities to make money off of them. But yeah, the days of watching Kansas-Kentucky with no money on the game and getting excited about it? Those days are definitely over.

Understand fully. Been there myself, but I forced myself to not let it be. I took some time from gambling and re-learned to watch sports and enjoy the game for the game. Football & Hockey moreso than anything. Never was a big NBA fan. CBK was ruined with the 3 point shot, and I don't think I could ever watch a full baseball game often no matter gambling or not. May as well take a sleeping pill. But, I used to feel the same about football, and it can be overcome if you really miss that thrill of watching to enjoy and not the need to win a wager.

when i lived in lincoln park in the early 90's, we would plan our weekends around the bulls playoff games. get to the bar early...get a good table close to the big screen, etc. i never had any money on those games. i did not even know what the lines were.

that 1990 or 1991 ncaa game between duke and kentucky that went to ot, then laettner hit that shot to win...was the best game i have ever seen. i was glued to the tv...my heart was pounding. i had nothing riding on that game. not even an entry in a bracket pool.

now, if i win a game...i just do a mini fist pump and think about tomorrow's lines. if i lose, i yell at the coach and the players and the refs and get all pissed off for about 10 minutes.

:sad3:

No, it didn't as you know, but I made up some of the loss in casino and Pacers over 5.5 3's (With 8 secs to go).

I will try and get some back tonight as I should have an NBA play or 2.

Good luck
