Simon Gagne was easily the worst forward on the Olympic team and has done nothing in the playoffs to suggest he deserves to be on the World Cup team. Is this kowtowing to the French again? How about Tanguay instead? At least that old stiff Shanahan (the second worst forward on the Olympic team) wasn't selected as well.
Nice to see Draper and Maltby. The defense is STACKED. Pity there's no spot for Primeau with all the great centres. He'll probably be added if Mario can't go. Would have loved to see Bertuzzi as well.

Madden's play in this year's playoffs was nothing compared to the level he was at last year. I think he should have won The Conn Smythe. Goalies often get too much credit for the great overall team defense in the playoffs.
Giguere, Roy over Blake or Sakic in 2001, Vernon over Federov in 1997, etc.
Primeau must want to puke seeing his linemate Gagne make the team while he's left out because he's a centerman. Watch the Olympic games on tape. Gagne led the team in giveaways. He looked like he was occasionally doing something because he played with Sakic and Iginla. They named 15 forwards, so hopefully he's one of the 3 that doesn't dress. Same with Morrow.

Lines?
Mario-Richards(or Marleau)-St.Louis
Sakic-Iginla-Gagne
Heatley-Thornton-Smyth
Draper-Maltby-Doan

spare parts
Yzerman -Marleau(or Richards)-Morrow

draper and maltby do not deserve to be on the team --- they have heart, but little talent. Gagne is one of the quickest, smartest players in the game.Just my opinion.

Who will Draper and Maltby hide behind when the rough stuff starts? Will they want McCarty selected?

Rough stuff in the World Cup? That is a joke right there, this will be a skating exhibition until the semis when good hitting will start, but rough stuff won't be around. If there is I can already hear Wayne crying about it, getting out of his seat and talking to the media about how it is ruining the game. Simply put these guys are going to treat it like the exhibition it is until the last couple of games.

Draper was Detroit's best player in the playoffs. The only guy who ever created anything against the Flames. To say that those guys can't handle the rough stuff is absurd. you think Lang and Datysuk handled it? The gritty guys with wheels are the players you want in the playoffs, not the pansy Euros who work the periphery. Try watching a little hockey, or like me, every period of every televised playoff game, before you start making such ridiculous comments, lol.
As for WildBill, Americans may consider it an exhibition, but Canadians take the World Cup (nee Canada Cup) very seriously.
Frankly, it's the best hockey played. The best players on NHL ice. The real World Championships.
I think you're mixing up rough hard-nosed clean hockey and fighting. You'll see some rough hockey in the World Cup. If only Bertuzzi was available to bitch slap the Americans around... that's if they Americans even make it that far.

I watch every period of all the games I can.Which is just about every one of em. Have had NJ seasons tix for 16 seasons, and as long as Martin Brodeur is playing for Canada I will root for them . I rooted for him in the last Olympics vs Richter and the USA.

I like how you didn't deny Maltby being a pansy

It still is an exhibition until the final two rounds. There won't be any fighting, come on these guys don't make money from this. Sure everyone wants to win and takes it seriously, but only when it gets down to the point where it really counts.

If only the US could get a first notch goalie they would be serious contenders every time out. Oh well, maybe we can get one of these European goalies naturalized soon

Tired of seeing guys like Richter and Barasso as our only choices. Is Ty Conklin really all we got these days?

Maltby isn't a pansy. He's an agitator. If a guy doesn't fight does that make him a pansy? I guess Forsberg's a pansy too then.

Brodeur stunk against Philly. He's overrated. His goals against average has always been more a product of a very good defensive team, and two future Hall of Fame defencemen in particular. Hitchock was lobbying for Belfour to start at the Olympics over Brodeur. He's also one of those frog glory goalies who tries to shoot on empty nets, as if anyone gives a shit if he scores. Nice to see his ex-wife out banging guys then calling him to taunt him, lol.

Yep Brodeur sucks. 3 Stanley Cups is awful. Obviously you have never seen him play.

Brodeur won the Gold medal at the Olympics , was he the product of the sytem there also? How did the system help on that skate save on Brett Hull in the Gold medal game.

Too bad they do not have pro hockey in Wisconsin, you would really enjoy watching it.

I'm from Toronto and the last thing I need is some Yank patronizing me on puck. If you want to school me on Arena Football, feel free, but anyone who claims Maltby is a pansy is totally clueless.
Furthermore, Brodeur wasn't the reason Canada won the Olympic Gold nor the reason they won their Cups. You think Scott Stevens might be a little more valuable now? I could have played net with my old road hockey gear and beaten the Americans.
Surely you know what road hockey is, having played your entire childhood in Jersey with Sinatra and Jovi on the ghettoblaster. Car. Milk it.

Toronto? Do they have a team?
Toronto is the place where they think Cujo is gods gift to goaltending. How'd he do vs the Swedes in the Olympics?

I like how you judge a goalie based on one game. Cujo isn't the same player he was with St.Louis or Edmonton, when he was probably better than Brodeur. His performance against Dallas when they upset them in 7 on Marchant's winner was perhaps the best I've ever seen by a goalie in a series. Not to mention his play against the Leafs with the Blues when Gilmour won it in 7.
Nonetheless, you can't blame that Sweden game on him. The Canadians were still adjusting to the big ice. It caused a rift between him and Quinn when he was pulled and was probably part of the reason he left for Detroit. Whatever.
Any no-talent-ass-clown knows that Toronto is the centre of the hockey universe. The most fans per capita, most knowledgeable fans, most minor hockey players, most recreational players, highest TV ratings, most baby pajamas, etc etc. Jersey can't even sell out playoff games, lol.

I judge Cujo on all of his playoff flops. Like being unable to beat Dwayne Roloson and the Sabres the 1 time he decided to reach the conference finals.

I judge him on John Maddens goal from the boards .

Cujo has advanced past round 2 once in his career. Brodeur has 3 cups.

I am not saying Toronto isn't a great hockey town. I am just wondering how that knowledge hasn't made its way to your neck of the woods.

He must've seen this post...2 goals including the GAME WINNER to keep us alive!

It doesn't shock me a Leafs fan would come up with that garbage(though most Leafs fans on this board had a lot more class). SOUR GRAPES Chach!

LETS GO FLYERS!!!!

agree with Mr NJ and disagree with chach on "Choke-Jo"

this guy ALWAYS comes up small in big games. how he has lasted this long in beyond me. his teams win IN SPITE of him - not because of him.

he lets in more soft goals than anyone i know. i'd no coincidence Choke-Jo has NEVER played for a Cup - not come close.

he is to winning big games what roseanne is to fitness and good health.
