Despite being 16 shots behind leader Daniel Berger heading into Sunday's final round, Furyk charged up the leaderboard thanks to a record-setting round that included 10 birdies and an eagle. Furyk made seven straight birdies from holes No. 6 through 12.
Furyk teed off at 8:41 a.m. on <culink title="" class="culinks" style="color:rgb(51, 51, 51)!important;font-weight:400!important;" href="http://curiyo.com/en/topic/TPC River Highlands" culang="en">TPC River Highlands</culink> at 1-over par – Berger finished the third round at 15-under and wouldn’t even tee off for roughly another six hours.
It might have seemed like a long shot for Furyk to even finish in contention, but he already shot 59 once in his career, becoming the sixth golfer to do it when he put up that number in the second round of the 2013 BMW Championship.
After shooting par on the first hole, Furyk got things rolling with a 16-foot birdie putt on the par-4 second hole.
It got better from there as he shot a course-record 27 on the front nine, breaking the 29 mark held by multiple players.
Furyk holed in for eagle on the third, dropping a 135-yard second shot into the cup on the par-4, 419-yard hole. He went on to birdie five of the last six holes on the front, closing with four straight to move to 8-under for the round, 7-under for the tournament.
On the backside, Furyk extended the birdie run to seven straight holes before picking up par on the par-5, 522-yard 13th hole. He also pared the 14th, missing a 12-footer for par, and the 15th, which was inside of 8 feet. He also birdied the par-3, 16th hole with a 23-foot putt, then made par on the final two holes to secure his place in PGA Tour history.
