KEY STAT: Bordeaux have won just one of their last eight matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Monaco beat PSG before the international break and they can strengthen their already strong position in search of Champions League football. Bordeaux go into this match without a win in five and they will already be looking forward to the end of a dismal mid-table campaign.

RECOMMENDATION: Monaco

KEY STAT: Both teams have scored in the last ten meetings

EXPERT VERDICT: Bayer Leverkusen can force their way into the Bundesliga’s top four with a win over Wolfsburg, who could have one eye on their Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid. However, rather than backing a home win it may pay to go for goals in a fixture littered with high-scoring outcomes.

RECOMMENDATION: Both teams to score

KEY STAT: Getafe have picked up just two points from their last ten games

EXPERT VERDICT: Rayo Vallecano are winless in seven matches but goals are not the problem - they have scored 11 in that period - and they can claim a much needed three points against fellow strugglers Getafe. El Geta are on a disastrous run with their slump showing no sign of stopping.

RECOMMENDATION: Rayo Vallecano

KEY STAT: Chelsea have won seven of their last ten league matches against Aston Villa

EXPERT VERDICT: Aston Villa are surely going down – the Villans have lost six league games in a row, conceding ten goals combined against Liverpool and Manchester City. But Chelsea haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last six outings so this game could be closer than expected.

RECOMMENDATION: Both teams to score

KEY STAT: West Ham are unbeaten in their last eight matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Two London sides with very different ambitions go head-to-head at Upton Park and it looks wise to side with in-form West Ham. Crystal Palace’s fine early season form is a thing of the past and a sequence of 13 league games without a win has seen them plummet into the relegation picture.

RECOMMENDATION: West Ham

EXPERT VERDICT: Three wins from four matches have helped Swansea pull clear of relegation but they would probably settle for a point on this trip to the Potteries. Stoke are on a fine run, but the loss of goalkeeper Jack Butland is a blow and captain Ryan Shawcross may be short of full fitness following his injury.

Preview: Wild (38-29) at Red Wings (38-28)

Date: April 01, 2016 7:30 PM EDT

Although they lost their latest game, the Minnesota Wild still remain in good shape for a fourth consecutive playoff berth.

Detroit's league-best streak of 24 straight appearances, meanwhile, appears tenuous because the Red Wings struggled to get into a groove this past month.

They still have a chance to move into playoff position, however, if they can beat the visiting Wild on Friday night and get some help.

Minnesota (38-29-11) is five points ahead of Colorado for the Western Conference's final playoff berth with four games remaining. The Wild missed their opportunity to add to that lead Thursday by giving up the go-ahead goal with 3:57 left in a 3-2 defeat to Ottawa and ending a season-high six-game win streak.

"We had a lot of guys that got to up their ante there," interim coach John Torchetti said. "There's no nights off in this league. It's the best league in the world. So, we've got to be ready to battle and I didn't like our battle level."

Detroit (38-28-11) also faltered in the third period in its latest game Tuesday, giving up two goals in the final 14 minutes of a 4-3 defeat in Montreal. The Red Wings rallied after Petr Mrazek allowed two goals in the first 11:25 and was pulled from his second straight start.

Jimmy Howard is expected to stand between the pipes Friday for Detroit, which went 6-8-0 in March. He last faced the Wild on April 4, earning a 3-2 shootout victory in Minnesota.

"We got to make sure we learn from it and go Friday and win a hockey game against Minnesota," coach Jeff Blashill said.

Philadelphia moved two points ahead of the Red Wings for the East's final wild-card spot with a 2-1 shootout win against Washington on Wednesday, but Detroit has a second path to extend its lengthy postseason streak.

The Red Wings are one point behind Boston for third place in the Atlantic Division. The Bruins are in St. Louis on Friday.

Detroit will try to do its part in that attempt to overtake Boston by earning a season split with the Wild. The Red Wings fell 3-1 in Minnesota on Dec. 28 as Mikko Koivu scored twice in the third period and Devan Dubnyk outdueled Mrazek.

Zach Parise has taken up the scoring load lately for Minnesota with six of his team-leading 25 goals in the past four games. Parise has five goals and two assists in his last four meetings with the Red Wings, and seven goals in as many games in Detroit.

Erik Haula has five goals and six assists in a 10-game point streak that matches a Wild franchise record. He hasn't registered a point in five career matchups against Detroit.

Gustav Nyquist has six goals and one assist in seven lifetime games versus the Wild. He ended an 11-game goal drought Tuesday by tallying one of Detroit's three power-play scores in the second period.

The Red Wings have scored at least once on a man advantage in a season-high six consecutive games, going 9 for 20. The Wild have been one of the league's top penalty-killing clubs in their past 12 games, allowing one goal in 29 times short-handed.

Preview: Bruins (40-29) at Blues (46-22)

Date: April 01, 2016 8:00 PM EDT

Boston's difficulty putting the puck in the net during its road-heavy stretch is threatening to cost it a playoff spot that seemed almost assured not long ago.

Solving that issue against St. Louis could boost the Bruins' confidence moving forward considering how well the Blues' goaltenders have played lately.

Boston hasn't lived up to its impressive road record when it has mattered most but will try to get back on track by snapping St. Louis' five-game winning streak Friday night.

The Bruins' lead for the Eastern Conference's final playoff spot has been trimmed to one point over Detroit during a 1-6-0 span, and the Atlantic Division title for which they once contended is falling out of reach with five games remaining.

Boston (40-29-8) finishes a stretch of playing eight of nine on the road Sunday at Chicago. It's been especially disappointing so far since the Bruins entered that span with a 23-7-3 mark away from home, far better that their under-.500 record at TD Garden.

They've been held to 10 goals over the last seven games after losing 2-1 to New Jersey on Tuesday. They outshot the Devils 40-15 but allowed five power plays that New Jersey used to score both goals.

Boston ends the season with a three-game homestand that includes a critical showdown with the Red Wings next Thursday.

"I keep telling the guys that the only thing we control is our attitude," coach Claude Julien said. "Right now we still have a spot in the playoffs, so how are we going to handle this? Are we going to get excited about it, or are we going to stress ourselves out and not do the job?"

Defenseman John-Michael Liles missed the last two with a lower-body injury, but he's returned to practice. He said the injury wasn't as serious as originally thought and is expecting to play in this contest.

That's good news for the defensive unit, but the Bruins still have to find a way to score. They were third in the league with 3.03 goals per game through March 6 but have since been held below that average in 10 straight.

'You don't want to start banging on your heads and kind of get frustrated," center Patrice Bergeron said. "It's about getting results and putting your chin up and going out there and finding a way.'

Boston lost to the Blues 2-0 in the first meeting Dec. 22 and hasn't scored more than twice in any of the last five matchups, losing four.

St. Louis (46-22-9) posted a franchise-record four consecutive shutouts before having a scoreless streak of 258 minutes, 29 seconds end in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Colorado. Brian Elliott made 20 saves, and the crowd gave the Blues a standing ovation after allowing the goal late in the first period.

'It's almost like the pressure is off now,' Elliott said. 'You let in a goal and you move on from the streak and try to start a new one.'

St. Louis is on the verge of winning a season-high sixth straight game and is battling Dallas for home-ice advantage throughout the West playoffs with five remaining. Having a healthy Alexander Steen should help.

He assisted on goals from David Backes and Troy Brouwer after missing the previous 15 with a shoulder injury.

'For a first game back, he did what he does,' coach Ken Hitchcock sad. 'He's a dependable guy. It was a good sign for us.'

Elliott has started four times during the winning streak, stopping 91 of 92 shots. It's unclear if he or Jake Allen, who beat the Bruins with 32 saves in the first meeting, will get the start.

Tuukka Rask could get the nod for Boston, which could be without center Ryan Spooner for a second straight game because of an undisclosed injury.

Preview: Blackhawks (44-26) at Jets (31-39)

Date: April 01, 2016 8:00 PM EDT

One swing of the stick might have altered the Chicago Blackhawks' chances of repeating as Stanley Cup champions.

With five games left before the playoffs start, they'll have to maintain their top-three spot in the Central Division without their top defenseman.

With the status of Duncan Keith cloudy, the Blackhawks close a four-game road trip Friday night seeking their fourth straight win over the last-place Winnipeg Jets.

In third place in the division, Chicago (44-26-7) is headed for a first-round matchup with Dallas or St. Louis - if it can at the least remain in third. Nashville has a chance to catch the Blackhawks and relegate them to a wild-card berth.

The Blackhawks have surrendered 3.1 goals per game during a 3-5-1 stretch, and keeping the puck out of their net will likely be tougher without Keith. The three-time All-Star winner has been offered an in-person hearing by the NHL for high-sticking Minnesota's Charlie Coyle during Tuesday's 4-1 loss.

The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced late Thursday night that Keith waived his right to an in-person hearing, and he will instead have a phone hearing Friday afternoon.

The offer for an in-person hearing meant the league can suspend Keith more than five games, but it doesn't have to.

After being dropped to the ice on his back in the first period, Keith whipped his stick into Coyle's face. Keith - who has been suspended twice in the past - was handed a 10-minute match penalty and ejected, and the Blackhawks went on to lose their first road game in four tries.

'We've done it before,' captain Jonathan Toews said. 'Whatever happens we'll make the best of any situation. That's the only way to look at it.'

Chicago was already facing personnel issues at the back end, as goaltender Corey Crawford will sit out an eighth straight game with an undisclosed injury - reportedly to the head.

Coach Joel Quenneville says he expects Crawford on the ice this weekend. The Blackhawks open a three-game homestand against Boston on Sunday.

Defenseman Brent Seabrook, who sat one game with an illness, is expected back Friday along with center Artem Anisimov, who missed two with a lower-body injury. However, forward Marian Hossa is sick and will not make the trip to Winnipeg after scoring his 499th career goal against the Wild.

Crawford's backup Scott Darling will make his eighth straight start in the matchup with the Jets (31-39-7), against whom he logged his lone shutout March 18. Darling made 28 saves in a 4-0 road win, Chicago's third straight in the season series.

The Hawks have won five of their last six against the Jets and are 8-1-0 in their last nine at Winnipeg.

Darling has posted a 2.36 goals-against average while going 3-3-1 in place of Crawford.

The Jets enter on a three-game skid as they continue to sputter offensively. They've scored 14 goals during a 2-4-2 stretch.

Mark Scheifele scored his team-leading 26th early in the third period to tie it Wednesday, but Ottawa answered less than two minutes later in a 2-1 win that dropped the Jets to 17-19-3 at the MTS Centre.

Scheifele has three goals and four assists in a five-game point streak.

'Getting closer and closer to 30 (goals) is obviously a goal of mine," Scheifele said. "But the biggest thing is winning games and help this team and grow as a full 200-foot player.'

Preview: Capitals (54-16) at Avalanche (39-34)

Date: April 01, 2016 9:00 PM EDT

The Washington Capitals fell victim to a team fighting for a playoff spot in their last game - perhaps a predictable outcome, as they've clinched the Presidents' Trophy and are just playing out their regular-season schedule.

The Capitals now face an opponent with an even higher level of urgency.

Washington looks to rediscover its scoring touch when it visits the Colorado Avalanche, whose fading postseason hopes could receive another major blow Friday night.

Washington (54-16-6) was outshot for the first time in four games Wednesday and lost 2-1 in a shootout at Philadelphia, which is two points up on Detroit for the second wild-card spot and also battling the New York Islanders for the first.

Alex Ovechkin scored on the power play for his 44th goal to give the Capitals the lead early in the third period, but the Flyers tied it late and then scored twice on Braden Holtby in the tiebreaker.

"The biggest difference in the two teams is probably the desperation level of Philadelphia," said coach Barry Trotz, whose club could end up facing the Flyers in the first round. "Ours probably wasn't as high and it probably shouldn't be, human nature and all that. At the same time we battled hard."

The Capitals' lack of any incentive in the final six games probably also explains their lack of offense over the past four contests. They've totaled one or no goals in three of them, though they've gone 2-1-1 in that span and 5-1-1 in the past seven.

Washington isn't exactly denying that it isn't playing its best in these meaningless games.

"I don't think we answered their intensity," center Nicklas Backstrom said Wednesday. "I think we have one more level."

The Avalanche (39-34-4) certainly hope they can find that for themselves. Colorado is just outside the playoff picture, but its chances of catching surging Minnesota for the second wild card are becoming more remote by the day.

The Avalanche were outshot 24-11 through the first two periods and lost 3-1 at St. Louis on Tuesday, their third defeat in four games.

The slump has left Colorado with almost no margin for error, and the absence of leading scorers Matt Duchene and Nathan MacKinnon from the lineup due to knee injuries certainly didn't help. Both are uncertain to play Friday.

"At this point, this was a two-point game and we didn't get it done," defenseman Chris Bigras said. "That's disappointing."

Colorado has totaled three goals in its last three defeats. The Avalanche allowed two power-play goals against the Blues and have given up three in 10 chances over the last three games, and they've gone 1 for 14 with the man advantage in the past seven.

"We were not perfect," coach Patrick Roy said. "We took two unnecessary penalties. But this is a special group that never gives up and they kept pushing."

The Avalanche have dropped their last two home games. The Capitals are 2-0-1 in their previous three on the road, though they've managed one goal in the past two.

Washington has taken the last three meetings in the series and routed Colorado 7-3 in the first one this season Nov. 21.

Holtby has allowed two or fewer goals in six of his past seven starts, while the Avalanche's Semyon Varlamov has given up three in each of his past five. Varlamov, though, is 2-1-0 with a 1.35 goals-against average against Washington in his career.

Preview: Canucks (28-36) at Ducks (43-23)

Date: April 01, 2016 10:00 PM EDT

Anaheim's defensive prowess has proved a driving force for its recent success at home, but the Ducks have also shown they're capable of pouring it on at the other end of the ice.

After its highest scoring performance of the season, Anaheim will try to take advantage of a matchup with the eliminated Vancouver Canucks on Friday night in a bid to regain the Pacific Division lead.

Anaheim (43-23-10) has allowed 19 goals while going 11-1-1 in its last 13 at home but gave up three to Calgary on Wednesday. The Ducks more than made up for it, drubbing the Flames 8-3 for their best output since a 9-1 win over Vancouver in January 2014.

Jakob Silfverberg scored twice and Ryan Kesler tallied four points as Anaheim temporarily took over first place in the division with its third consecutive overall victory. Los Angeles regained a one-point advantage with a 3-0 victory over Calgary on Thursday.

The Ducks will try to move back into first over the idle Kings on Friday by earning their 12th win in 16 games against Vancouver (28-36-13).

"It's always good. With the (1-7-2) start we had, no one expected us to be where we're at right now," Silfverberg said. "We've been doing some good things lately. We've been playing good hockey. There's a big benefit being first."

Anaheim is 2-0-2 against the Canucks in 2015-16 and 5-0-2 in the past seven home meetings, splitting the two this season. The Ducks won 4-0 in the latest visit from Vancouver on Nov. 30, and blew out New Jersey 7-1 on March 14 in one of their other recent home games.

Vancouver is heading into Orange County after a 4-2 victory in San Jose on Thursday that ended an 0-8-1 skid, its longest since 1997-98, as Jannik Hansen provided the tiebreaking goal with 5:03 remaining.

The Canucks totaled eight goals during their losing streak and five in their previous seven games while being shut out four times.

"Nine was enough games to lose," Hansen said. "We were hungry tonight and it showed. We're playing for pride."

Vancouver likely have to try to contain a bevy of productive Anaheim players to earn another win, and that list begins with Silfverberg, who has nine goals and two assists in his last nine contests.

Jamie McGinn has six goals and three assists in his last eight, and Kesler has 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in his past eight.

Silfverberg has just one goal in his last seven games against Vancouver, but McGinn has fared better with three goals and two assists in a five-game point streak versus the Canucks.

Anaheim defenseman Sami Vatanen has four goals and seven assists in his last 10 matchups. Corey Perry, owner of a season-high five-game point streak, has just one goal in his last six meetings with the Canucks.

Anaheim goaltender John Gibson is 3-0-0 with 0.67 goals-against average in three lifetime starts against Vancouver. He was forced to leave Wednesday's game following a collision with teammate Hampus Lindholm but returned to replace an ineffective Frederik Andersen at the beginning of the third period.

Grand Salami - March

The Grand Salami in pro hockey is decided by adding up all the goals scored in every game scheduled for that particular day. You can wager on 'over' or 'under' the Grand Salami total. The total is set by adding up all listed 'over/under' odds for each game on that particular day.

Note: The Grand Salami will have no action if any game is suspended or cancelled before the regulation time of three twenty minute periods. Also, regardless of the number of goals scored during the shoot out portion of the overtime, the final scored recorded for the game will give the winning team on more goal than its opponent based on the score at the end of regulation time.

*The majority of sportsbooks do not put out a total on the Grand Salami when there is only one game on the card. For tracking purposes, we will continue to show the 'over/under' for goals and combined goals scored on days with just one game.

NHL Hockey Odds and Picks: Scouting the Week Ahead
by Alan Matthews

For the most part, we know which teams are in the Stanley Cup playoffs. In the West, it will be Dallas, St. Louis and Chicago from the Central Division. Los Angeles, Anaheim and San Jose will make it from the Pacific Division. And Nashville and Minnesota from the Central should claim the final two wild-card spots. The Wild got a huge win in that regard on Saturday against Colorado; the Avs are now five points behind the Wild for that final wild-card spot and Minnesota holds the head-to-head tiebreaker.

In the East, Washington (will clinch the Presidents' Trophy this week and remains +400 Cup favorite), the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh are locks from the Metropolitan Division, as are Florida, Tampa Bay and Boston from the Atlantic. The NY Islanders, Philly and Detroit are battling for the two wild-card spots. I expect the Flyers to be the odd team out.

But perhaps the most interesting race to monitor the rest of the way is at the bottom of the standings and the best chance to win the NHL Draft lottery and select touted prospect Auston Matthews with the No. 1 overall pick this June. Matthews was the first player to be named by USA Hockey to the U.S. roster for the upcoming world hockey championship in Russia (starts May 6). Matthews finished second in the top Swiss league this season in voting for league MVP after scoring 24 goals and 46 points in 36 games. He's just 18.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have the fewest points entering the week with 65, and they badly need a franchise-changing talent like Mathews could be. Some other teams are making a late push to try and "catch" Toronto or at least get as low as possible. Vancouver appears to be in full tank mode, having lost eight straight games and scoring a total of seven goals in them. The Canucks have 67 points. So does Edmonton, which could be frightening if it lands Matthews to pair with Connor McDavid.

Ottawa is fading and has decided to shut down defenseman Dion Phaneuf and forward Clarke MacArthur the rest of the way. Phaneuf was acquired at the trade deadline from the Maple Leafs, but the Sens are playing only about .500 hockey since and they aren't making the playoffs. MacArthur played four games this season because of a concussion.

My point being: bet big against those teams near the bottom with nothing to play for. Might not be a bad idea to also wager against the Caps for a bit as they might start resting guys with nothing left to prove in the regular season.

This Week's Games To Watch

Dallas at Los Angeles, Saturday: Matchup of division leaders, although it may not be by Saturday. The Stars remain No. 1 in the NHL in scoring and haven't missed the injured Tyler Seguin too badly yet. Dallas got back center Mattias Janmark from a six-game injury absence on Saturday and he had two goals in a 4-2 win over San Jose. Coach Lindy Ruff still hasn't said whether Kari Lehtonen or Antti Niemi will be his playoff goalie. Lehtonen had taken over as the primary guy but Niemi was in there against the Sharks. Led by Jonathan Quick, the Kings are No. 1 in the NHL in goals against. The Kings are 2-0 vs. the Stars this season, winning 3-2 at home and 5-2 on the road. These teams won't play again unless it's the Western Conference Finals. The Kings are +350 to win the West and Stars +550.

Preview: 76ers (9-66) at Hornets (43-31)

Date: April 01, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

While he's been playing at an elite level, Nicolas Batum says the Charlotte Hornets are focused on the big picture as they try to inch closer to clinching a rare postseason berth.

The Philadelphia 76ers merely hope to avoid matching the worst finish in NBA history.

Coming off the best month in franchise history, the Hornets look to open April with their 20th win in 25 games Friday night in the last of a home-and-home set with the visiting 76ers.

Charlotte set a club record for victories in a month by closing out a 13-3 March with Tuesday's 100-85 win at Philadelphia. Among four teams in a tight battle between third and sixth place in the Eastern Conference, the Hornets have an opportunity to cut their magic number to one as they continue to chase only their third postseason appearance in 12 seasons.

Batum led the way Tuesday with 19 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds, and Cody Zeller added 18 points and 11 boards.

Securing home-court advantage could go a long way toward Charlotte's bid to advance past the first round for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The Hornets (43-31) have won 10 of 12 in Charlotte and own the East's third-best home record at 27-11.

'Right now we're just preparing ourselves to be ready for (the playoffs),' Batum said. "We don't play just to get into the playoffs. We're trying to get ready to be effective in the playoffs and don't just do one-and-done.'

After he became the first Charlotte player with multiple triple-doubles in a season since 2000-01, Philadelphia coach Brett Brown called Batum "one of the elite wings in the NBA."

Batum, acquired from Portland in the offseason, has certainly come on strong since averaging 8.8 points during an injury-plagued January. He scored 12.7 per game in February before averaging 18.5 in March - his best month of the season - along with 6.7 assists and 6.3 rebounds.

"I'm just feeling more and more comfortable with this team," Batum told the team's official website. "I trust my team. I love the coaching staff and love my teammates. I just love being here."

The Hornets finished with the East's second-best scoring average in March with 109.2 points, but they impressed defensively Tuesday while holding Philadelphia to a 31.3 percent from the field. They also outscored the 76ers 48-24 in the paint and outrebounded them 55-45.

Robert Covington had 18 points for Philadelphia, which dressed 10 players in its 10th consecutive defeat and 23rd in 24 games. Now the club is expected to again miss Nerlens Noel (knee), Jerami Grant (knee, quad), Richaun Holmes (Achilles) and Jahlil Okafor (knee).

The 76ers (9-66) must win once more to avoid matching the worst 82-game record in league history. Should they drop their final seven, they will finish at 9-73 to tie the mark they set in 1972-73.

'There's no quit,' veteran Elton Brand said. 'You can't represent Philadelphia and quit. It's tough but we have to keep fighting for wins. We have to fight for the city.'

Charlotte's Kemba Walker had averaged 26 points on 53.2 percent shooting in his previous four meetings with Philadelphia before finishing with 16 on 5-of-19 shooting Tuesday.

Jeremy Lin sat out with a sore back and will likely be a game-time decision.

The Hornets have won four straight and nine of 11 over the 76ers, including five in a row at home.

Preview: Nets (21-54) at Knicks (30-46)

Date: April 01, 2016 7:30 PM EDT

Carmelo Anthony and the rest of the New York Knicks veterans will see their minutes decreased in the final six games in order to give younger players more experience.

That may not apply Friday night to starting center Robin Lopez, who has one more matchup left to try to slow down his twin brother.

Brooklyn Nets star Brook Lopez will be rested and ready to try to torment his brother yet again and their sibling rivalry may be the only intriguing part of this city rivalry at Madison Square Garden.

These teams are led by interim coaches and would be the worst in the Atlantic Division if not for nine-win Philadelphia. The Knicks are losers of six of eight and 20 of 27 while the Nets (21-54) are seeking to avoid their first nine-game road slide since a 12-game skid in 2010-11.

Several Knicks approached coach Kurt Rambis on their road trip this week and asked to get their minutes reduced. Rambis and the Phil Jackson-led organization agreed to do so beginning with Wednesday's 91-89 loss at Dallas.

"We would like to cut down on guys' minutes who we feel secure with," Rambis told the Knicks' official website. "We know who they are as players and (they) play well for us and try to cut back their minutes to open up minutes for other guys."

Anthony, who scored 31 in 33 minutes against the Mavericks, was one of the catalysts for the move.

"It's an opportunity for guys to just play," Anthony said. "It's not any one person that I want to see, it's just opportunity for guys that haven't been playing as much to go out there and play now."

New York (30-46) has seen plenty from rookie Kristaps Porzingis, who is one of the franchise's cornerstones. Porzingis is uncertain after he sat out Wednesday with a shoulder injury.

Robin Lopez is within the group of veterans who will see his minutes cut, although he may want to receive his regular playing time Friday. Twin brother Brook Lopez is averaging 24.7 points on 51.8 percent shooting to help Brooklyn take two of three meetings with New York this season and his Nets have won six of the last seven matchups.

Brooklyn chose to rest Lopez in Thursday's 107-87 loss at Cleveland, probably figuring it had a better chance to win Friday than against LeBron James and the Eastern Conference leaders. The Nets shot 37.2 percent without him for their second-worst mark.

"It changes everything," said coach Tony Brown about Lopez sitting out. "You have a threat down there in the paint that garners some attention. With him not being out there, obviously it makes it a little tougher."

The Nets have dropped seven straight in the second game of back-to-back sets, going 2-11 overall.

Rookie shooting guard Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is expected to play after missing two straight games for Brooklyn. He has missed most of the season with a fractured right ankle.

Knicks guard Jose Calderon is uncertain after he injured his quad in Dallas.

Preview: Mavericks (37-38) at Pistons (40-35)

Date: April 01, 2016 7:30 PM EDT

When they last met three weeks ago, the Dallas Mavericks were in the middle of an untimely swoon while the Detroit Pistons had begun to make their climb in the playoff race.

Looking to win three straight for the second time since December, the Mavericks try to move back into postseason position with their fifth straight road victory over the surging Pistons on Friday night.

Dallas was in the midst of a season-high five-game losing streak and 2-10 stretch that pushed it out of the playoff picture when it suffered a 102-96 home defeat to Detroit on March 9.

The Mavericks will certainly need a better game plan this time against big man Andre Drummond, who has averaged 20.0 rebounds in the past three meetings. The All-Star led the way with 25 points and 17 boards March 9 while the Pistons finished with a 51-40 advantage on the glass.

At that time, Detroit was eight games into its current 13-6 push that has taken it from 2 1/2 games out of a playoff spot to seventh in the East. The club won for the sixth time in seven games Tuesday, holding Oklahoma City to 37.8 percent shooting on the way to an 88-82 home victory.

"To go into seventh place is huge," forward Marcus Morris, who has averaged 18.6 points over his last five games, told the team's official website. "Got Dallas coming in, then we got a big back to back versus Chicago. Those are two big games, maybe two of the biggest games all year."

Morris led the way with 24 points and seven rebounds Tuesday while Drummond posted his league-leading 62nd double-double with 13 and 15.

Detroit (40-35), though, has shot 38.3 percent overall and gone 11 for 48 from 3-point range over its last two games after averaging 111.0 points during a 5-1 start to this nine-game homestand.

Dallas (37-38) looks to continue its tight defensive play after limiting opponents to 88.5 points per game and 29.3 percent shooting from 3-point range in back-to-back victories. The Mavericks had surrendered 124.0 points and 43.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc over their previous five.

J.J. Barea scored 26 points and made the go-ahead layup with 49.9 seconds left in Wednesday's 91-89 home win over New York. The reserve guard has stepped up for short-handed Dallas, averaging 19.8 points while sinking 12 of 23 of his 3s in his past four games.

'I've always been aggressive as a player,' Barea said after helping the Mavericks close the game on a 22-11 run. 'Now, I know I'm going to have to get more minutes.'

Among three teams in a tight battle for the West's final two playoff spots, the Mavericks seek their first three-game winning streak since Feb. 26-March 1. They're likely to be down two starters for a fifth consecutive contest with Chandler Parsons out following season-ending knee surgery and Deron Williams nursing an abdominal strain.

Dirk Nowitzki has struggled to pick up the slack offensively, totaling 21 points on 9-of-40 shooting in his last two games. He played well with 25 points and 10 rebounds in the first meeting with the Pistons.

'Now I'm 9 for (40), and we're 2-0,' Nowitzki said. 'I'd rather have the two wins.'

Dallas has lost the last two matchups but has won a franchise-best four in a row at Detroit.

Preview: Cavaliers (53-22) at Hawks (45-31)

Date: April 01, 2016 8:00 PM EDT

LeBron James is returning to Atlanta for the first time since he effectively ended last year's Eastern Conference finals with strong efforts in the first two games.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star just gave die-hard Hawks fans even more reason to boo him Friday night.

James just passed former Atlanta great Dominique Wilkins for 12th place on the NBA's career scoring list heading into this matchup with a Hawks team seeking to avoid consecutive defeats for the first time in over a month.

Cleveland (53-22) swept Atlanta in the East finals last season, with James totaling 61 points, 17 assists and 17 rebounds in the first two games on the road.

The four-time MVP had 24 points and 11 assists in Thursday's 107-87 rout of lowly Brooklyn, sitting out the fourth quarter. He passed Wilkins with a three-point play in the first quarter and has 26,689 career points.

"It's great to be in that position,' said James, who needs 22 points to pass Oscar Robertson for 11th. 'It's an honor.'

Wilkins, who finished with 26,668, is expected to attend Friday. James says his focus isn't on greeting the legend.

"If the opportunity presents itself but obviously my mind is to try to knock off a team that is playing very well as of late," James said.

Nobody logged more minutes for Cleveland on Thursday than the 30 by James in a mismatch the Cavaliers led by 24 points at halftime. That was part of the plan, according to coach Tyronn Lue.

"(I'm) not resting anyone tomorrow," Lue said. "I thought tonight coming out to start the game, we wanted to come out and try to take care of this team early and try to have our legs for tomorrow night's game."

Atlanta (45-31) has won nine of 11 and holds a one-game lead over Miami and Charlotte in the Southeast Division race. The Hawks, whose last losing streak was a three-game slide Feb. 19-22, will feel they have something to prove after losing 105-97 at Toronto on Wednesday.

Jeff Teague was the only starter to reach double digits 18 points as the Hawks trailed by as many as 24.

"We have to be better against a team like this," coach Mike Budenholzer said. "I think it's hopefully a lesson for us."

These teams met for the first time since last year's playoffs in Cleveland's 109-97 home win Nov. 21. Kevin Love had 25 points and 11 boards and James added 19 and 11 with eight assists as the Cavaliers dominated and led by as many as 26.

Paul Millsap and Kyle Korver each had 14 points for the Hawks, who shot 37.2 percent - which is their third-worst mark of the season.

This contest will be different since Kyrie Irving had yet to make his season debut for the Cavs, while Hawks point guard Teague struggled to make 3 of 12 shots for 13 points after missing his previous three games with a sprained left ankle.

Cleveland is hoping Thursday's romp bodes well since it has lost its last three games on the second nights of back-to-backs.

"Hopefully this will help us out in tomorrow's game with having legs and being ready to play because we haven't been great on back-to-backs," Lue said.

Preview: Raptors (50-24) at Grizzlies (41-34)

Date: April 01, 2016 8:00 PM EDT

With a new franchise record for victories and the Atlantic Division title both secured, the Toronto Raptors may not be thinking about a No. 1 seed.

Although the Raptors have a shot to catch Eastern Conference-leading Cleveland with eight games left, a slew of quality matchups await over the next week after they visit the struggling Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night.

Toronto (50-24) eclipsed its previous mark of 49 wins set last season with a 105-97 home victory over Atlanta on Wednesday, moving the club six games clear of the third-place Hawks in the East.

DeMar DeRozan scored 26 and Jonas Valanciunas added 19 points and nine rebounds to help Toronto become the final NBA franchise to reach 50 wins in a season.

This marks the fifth straight season under coach Dwane Casey in which the Raptors have increased their win total. Since 2011-12, they're the only team to do that under the same head coach. Toronto went 23-43 in Casey's lockout-shortened first season.

"We are not satisfied with just 50 wins," said Kyle Lowry, who had 17 points and 11 assists. "It's a great benchmark to get, but at the end of the day we still want to be playing as long as possible, as close as possible to the end of the whole NBA season."

Though it was just Toronto's second win in five games, the Cavaliers have also struggled recently to keep things tight atop the East. But the Raptors follow this game with a trip to San Antonio before sandwiching a visit to Atlanta with home games versus Charlotte and Indiana, which are both in the playoff mix.

Toronto then closes with a three-game slog through the basement of the East against New York, Philadelphia and Brooklyn.

It seems fitting that the Raptors' next matchup after reaching the 50-win plateau would come against the Grizzlies. The franchises are forever linked since entering the NBA together in 1995 as part of the league's venture into Canada.

While the Raptors have found a loving fan base in Toronto, the Grizzlies (41-34) left Vancouver after only six seasons and long ago reached 50 wins in 2003-04. They also accomplished the feat in each of the previous three seasons, and a host of injuries may be all that kept them from doing it again in 2015-16.

Center Marc Gasol was lost for the season to a broken foot in early February, and point guard Mike Conley has been out since March 7 with an Achilles injury and won't be back until the playoffs - if Memphis even gets there.

The Grizzlies are fifth in the West, but that position is tenuous after they dropped their fourth straight amid a 2-8 plummet with Wednesday's 109-105 home loss to Denver.

Simply falling to sixth place and facing Oklahoma City instead of the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round is unacceptable for coach Dave Joerger.

"We don't want to just get in the playoffs," Joerger said. "We want to get fifth, and we want to play the Clippers. This was not a step in the right direction."

A bright spot was Zach Randolph scoring 26 points after missing two games with a sprained ankle.

The Raptors can sweep the Grizzlies for the second time in three seasons. DeRozan scored 21 and Lowry added 18 in Toronto's 98-95 home win Feb. 21 in which it held Memphis to 3 of 20 from 3-point range.

The Grizzlies have gone 10-4 at home in the series since leaving Vancouver in 2001.
