Good start to the NHL year...if SJ could've held a lead I'd be 4-0...but I can't complain.

Blues at Jackets OVER 5 -109

It seems like every time these two teams play 5 goals is a given. The Over is 7-2-1 ATS L10 when they play and the majority of those numbers posted have been 5.5. In all 5 meetings a year ago they scored 5 or more goals (7 goals 3 times, 8 goals once). The Jackets have also gone over 5 of the last 7 games and the Blues have totaled 5 or more in their last 4. Blues have an impressive power play away hitting at 24.1 percent and the Jackets are at around 19.3 percent so both teams will have opportunties to score goals on special teams.

Oilers at Coyotes OVER 5.5 +113

This is a value play for me as two of the NHL's worst defenses get together in Phoenix. Oilers are ranked 28th in D giving up 3 goals/game and are coming off no rest where in this situation twice this season they lost 4-3 to Boston and 7-1 to Detroit. The Oilers have also gone over in 7 of 12 road games this season. These two teams also have a history of overs as the Over is 7-1-1 in the last 9 meetings. Phoenix is not much better on D ranking 27th and allowing 2.93 goals/game. Coyotes are also allowing 3.27 goals/game on 30+ shots per game at home (Oilers not much better with 3.25 goals/game on 30 shots per game on the road) and both penalty killing units in this situation are bad (75 percent and below) so I think both teams will get chances.

Coyotes -0.5 EVEN vs Oilers

This is another VALUE play as I will give in to my ego after losing going against EDM and not let the Oilers road woes pass me by here. I already outlined their problems coming off no rest but there is more. Edmonton is still pathetic lately ATS (3-7 L10) and they still are woeful on the power play on the road (now at 3.8 percent). Given that the Coyotes are 5-2 ATS L7 overall and 3-1 L4 ATS vs Edmonton it is certainly worth a play to me. Oilers still below .500 on the road (3-6-3-0) and the Coyotes are above .500 at home (6-4-1-0) and coming off a day's rest 6-5 ATS I am comfortable laying the half goal for even money. I expect a ton of shots in this game and I am looking for a 4-2 or 5-2 game (and the Coyotes to win obviously).
