Chicago +1.47 over DETROIT (REG)
This one really doesn’t need a lot of print. The bottom line is that the Blackhawks have a great chance to win and nobody can make an argument against that. Of course the Wings can win too but they’re laying significant juice and that’s the difference here. Besides, the Blackhawks are playing great and the Red Wings are not and in fact, Detroit has now split its last eight games, losing its last two. Not only did they lose but they lost to Nashville and Colorado and to make matters worse, the Red Wings goaltending has been shaky at best. Also note that the Red Wings are near the bottom of the league in penalty killing and they’ll play again without the services of Nicklas Lindstrom and they’re just not the same without him. As for the Blackhawks, well, in its current nine-game winning streak they’ve allowed two goals or less in eight of those games and have outscored the opposition by a stupid count of 40-12. These two have played twice this year with both games going to a shootout and the Red Wings won each time. That was then and now the Blackhawks are better and the Red Wings are worse. Thus, I’m playing this in regulation, as the price on the Blackhawks is absolutely ludicrous. Play: Chicago +1.47 (Risking 2 units).

Atlanta +1.49 over TORONTO (REG)
The Leafs are usually a live dog but as a –1.60 favorite they have absolutely no appeal whatsoever. Toronto has lost three in a row and what’s most disturbing is that after losing 8-2 at home to Dallas they’re supposed to bounce back with a strong effort but instead they went on to lose to the Islanders 4-1. The Leafs need to score lots of goals to compensate for its brutal goaltending and weak defense but they’ve scored just four times in those three losses, while allowing 16 tallies. The Thrashers record is not a good one but that doesn’t mean they’re not dangerous. They’re coming off a strong effort in a 2-1 loss to the Bruins on Monday and the las6t time they were here they thumped the Leafs 6-3. The Leafs allow far too many goals to be favored by this much and many of those goals are of the cheap variety. That’s a problem they’ve been dealing with since the start of the season and thus, they’re a huge risk as a big favorite. Overlay. Play: Atlanta +1.49 (Risking 2 units).

Boston -½ +1.48 over PITTSBURGH (REG)
The Penguins were supposed to be one of the league’s elite squads but they’ve been anything but. They have no zip in them whatsoever and even in their recent wins they looked like a second rate team. They have recent losses to Toronto and Tampa Bay and in their two wins over New Jersey and Buffalo last week they were the second best team on the ice. The Penguins may snap out of it soon but right now this team is nowhere near the caliber of the Bruins. Boston has won eight in a row with the last four being on the road. They’re getting tremendous goaltending, they roll out three great lines and one great checking line (that can score too) and they’re near or at the top of every single category. The Penguins are outclassed here by a wide margin and until I see something different from them I would make this play every single time and make no exception here. Play: Boston -½ +1.48 (Risking 2 units). <o></o>

Philadelphia +1.10 over VANCOUVER Pay no attention to the Flyers last two losses to Chicago and Columbus, as they had a ton of traveling issues coming off the two day break and they were predictably very lethargic. They also played without Matt Carle and Kimmo Timonen and those two are key to the Flyers success. Both will be back in the line-up tonight and the Flyers will be a lot sharper. They were in Vancouver yesterday and by the players account, they had a great practice and its first practice since Dec 19. Said Mike Richards, “The energy was high out there today”. Anyway, the Canucks are the most penalized team in the league and the Flyers power-play is ranked #1. Furthermore, the Canucks have not been that sharp recently with three losses in five games and one of those wins came against the lifeless Sens. The Flyers are an offensive juggernaut and you can expect them to be ready and raring to go here. Play: Philadelphia +1.10 (Risking 2 units).
